An urban metropolis, San Jose is an exciting city to visit with its cosmopolitan culture. Bustling with life and activity, this city is modern and new, with tall office towers, shopping malls and first-rate restaurants. With a charm of its own, in San Jose, you can enjoy visiting a variety of museums, go to the theatre or cinema or if you like, party the night away in one of the city’s many nightclubs. The main tourist hub of Costa Rica, San Jose offers you a different side of this beautiful country to enjoy.

There are numerous bars in San Jose to satisfy the thirsty traveler. Beer, margaritas, guaro and many more drinks keep you well lubricated throughout the day. There are a variety of bars to choose from, ranging from the more modern hangouts for the younger crowd, to classy sophisticated lounges for the trendy. Some bars in San Jose also offer dancing and karaoke as well.

The most popular drink in San Jose as well as the rest of the country has to be beer, of which there are several local brands. If you want to try out a local beer, go for Imperial, which can be found almost anywhere. Guaro is also worth a try, it is a local drink, made from sugarcane. Colorless and sour, too much of it though can give you a nasty hangover.

The El Cuartel de la Boca del Monte, is one of the most popular night spots in the city, where both the young and the old converge to have a good time. The music is loud, but plenty of fun. Monday nights are the best time to come here when there is live music and ladies are allowed in for free. Chelle’s in downtown San Jose is another well-known bar in the city, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Meals are also served here. Bar Chavelona is one of the oldest bars in the city and is a good place to go if you want to mingle with the locals.
