Heredia is a great destination for those who enjoy the outdoors and love exploring nature. Ideal for the active at heart, Heredia offers a lot of recreational activities and entertainment. If you enjoy gambling, head for the Hotel Meliá Cariari, located just a 15-minute drive from downtown San Jose. Offering a wide range of hotel facilities and amenities, the Meliá Cariari has a casino on its premises.

While Heredia is great for those who love the outdoors, it is also a lovely province to relax in. The Cibeles Resort Hotel Cabinas & Spa is located near downtown Heredia, with some superb views of the Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo. Another wonderful spa in Heredia is the Travelers Inn in Cariari. An upscale inn located near the Juan Santamaria International Airport and a short distance from San Jose, this resort spa has a bar, a restaurant, laundry facilities, private parking, tour information and transfers to and from the airport.

Restaurants in Heredia can be found throughout the province and serve a wide range of foods and cuisines. Most of the restaurants are located in and around the well-known tourist destinations in the province and serve everything from burgers and pizzas to local Tico fares like casado, gallo pinto and tortillas. Italian and Chinese cuisine is also very popular here with many restaurants serving pastas and/or fried rice.

In Heredia city itself, there are a number of places to eat at, as the city is home to the National University. This means that there are a lot of cheap and expensive eateries in town as they cater to students who tend to live on a tight budget. There are a lot of restaurants, cafes and sodas near the university premises. The provincial capital of Heredia is also home to most of the bars in the province.

Most of the hotels and accommodations in Heredia have bars on their premises along with in-house restaurants to cater to their guests. Mini-bars are available in most hotel rooms as well, if you want to have a drink in the privacy of your room. Many roadside cafes and food stalls also sell alcoholic drinks.

Outside of the city, a lot of restaurants and bars are usually part of a hotel, cabina or inn and serve good quality food at affordable and reasonable prices. The menus in these restaurants offer a mixed bag of cuisines to cater to everyone taste buds. When eating at a soda in Heredia, do try out the local delicacies, as Tico food is very healthy and nutritious. Rice and beans is served with almost anything and plays a key role in a Ticos diet.
