The province of Alajuela is a great place to head for to escape the hustle and bustle of San Jose. Lush, verdant and green, this province is home to many traditional Tico towns like San Ramon, Sarchi and Grecia. Home to the Parque Nacional Volcan Arenal and the fiery Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica’s most popular tourist attraction, you will also find plenty of coffee plantations and farms in Alajuela as well, due to the fertile and rich soil found here.

There are numerous restaurants in Alajuela, with many located near the popular tourist destinations in the province. In Alajuela city, you will find a variety of restaurants from inexpensive sodas to fast food outlets and fine dining establishments. In some of the spa resorts in Alajuela, the restaurants serve macrobiotic and vegetarian cuisine only to help patrons stay fit and healthy.

Sodas and small restaurants can be found throughout Alajuela province and serve a variety of dishes from beef and chicken to fish and seafood. Rice and beans, a Costa Rican staple is also popular in this part of the country. Many of these sodas in Alajuela are situated in idyllic locations and are a great place to have a quick bite to eat. Cheap and affordable, the food sold in these sodas is often prepared right in front of you, within a few minutes, from the freshest ingredients that are on hand.

Hotels, cabinas, inns and motels in Alajuela also tend to have in-house restaurants for their guests. Serving everything from Chinese food to Italian and continental cuisine, these restaurants are great value for money. Plenty of restaurants can also be found in the towns of La Fortuna de San Carlos and Ciudad Quesada as they act as entry points for tourists visiting the Volcan Arenal area.
