Tobacon Hot Springs, Arenal Volcano
With it’s near proximity to San Jose, Alajuela presents tourists with a wonderful alternative of staying in a more relaxing area. Lush and green, this province is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of busy San Jose. Here life moves at a much slower pace and with plenty of hotels and accommodations in the area as well, living here is truly outstanding. The air in Alajuela is fresh and clean, with the climate pleasant most of the year. Aside from enjoying a more rural Costa Rica, Alajuela also is home to Costa Rica’s most famous tourist attraction, the fiery Arenal Volcano.

There are a number of spas in Alajuela, where one can unwind and relax at. Located in Alajuela city itself, the spas here are close to all the comforts of modern life, yet far away enough to let you wind down and release all your tensions. Head up north to the Ciudad Quesada San Carlos area to enjoy some lovely spa treatments, while soothing your mind and body in the thermal hot water springs found here. The two resorts here are luxurious with many recreational facilities available as well. Enjoy some wonderful body treatments here along with mud baths and a variety of other spa therapies.

You can also find a number of spas at La Fortuna de San Carlos, the getaway to the Parque Nacional Volcan Arenal. There are a number of hot springs in this part of Alajuela, with resorts and lodges built around them to provide guests with the ultimate relaxing experience. At La Fortuna de San Carlos, you will find the famous Tabacon Hot Springs, which provide some incredible views of the mighty Arenal Volcano in the distance as you soak your worries away in the thermal water baths created out here. The treatments here are designed to beautify both your mind and body amid gorgeous gardens. Messages, mud masks and aromatherapy is also offered here.

Another couple of excellent spas in Alajuela have to be the Pura Vida Bed and Breakfast at Pavaz de Carrizal and the Xandari Resort and Spa located some 6 to 7 km outside of Alajuela city. Ideal for families and couples, both these resort spas have also offer healthy spa cuisine to detoxify your body, with exotic massages ease your mind.
