Known for its wild, rugged and untamed beauty, the region of South Puntarenas is a wonderful way to withdraw from the commotion of every day life. The landscape here is underdeveloped and gorgeous, offering many tourists the ultimate getaway amidst some of the most spectacular surroundings.

A place where nature reigns supreme, South Puntarenas is quite unlike the rest of Costa Rica. The accommodations in South Puntarenas are mostly ecolodges with most hotels, resorts, cabinas, villas and inns offering a variety of nature based activities to enjoy. If you are looking to golf on your vacation here, you will be quite hard-pressed to find any golf resorts in the region. One reason for this is because most of the land in South Puntarenas is either a national park or a wildlife reserve. Many plans are underway to develop a full-fledged golf course in this region. However, they are still a long way off.

If miniature golf is your game then the Las Gaviotas Hotel in Golfito is the place to go. One of the few hotels and resorts offering mini-golf in this region, the Las Gaviotas Hotel makes for a wonderful escape. The restaurant and bar on the hotel premises are first-class and the amenities offered here are top-notch.
