Aside from being a place of quiet respite for the weary traveler, this province is superb for a lot of outdoor activities and adventure travel tours. With plenty of hiking, trekking, white water rafting, horseback riding and mountain biking tours on hand, Heredia is a perfect place to enjoy yourself.

For a whitewater rafting adventure, travel north of this park to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. The best time to visit is between July and December when the river is fast and at its peak. With some of the best whitewater rafting tours, this former key regional port is now a premier ecotourism destination. Visit the terrific eco-lodges in the area as you ride class III and IV rapids on the Rio Sarapiqui. You will have ample wildlife watching opportunities as you drift down the river.

Another excellent activity is canopy tours. One of the best canopy tours in Heredia has to be the Rainforest Aerial Tram. Not your conventional canopy tour, the Rainforest Aerial Tram is a 2.6 km ride which takes around an hour and a half both ways and affords you some amazing views of the forest below. Set up adjacent to the Braulio Carrillo National Park, this tram sits in a private nature reserve, which is rich in bird and plant life. You can also enjoy a canopy tour in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui as well. Located at the confluence of the Rios Puerto Viejo and Sarapiqui, this former port town offers an excellent canopy tour with 15 platforms to explore.

If you are looking to unwind out here, why not indulge in a friendly game of golf. The best golf resort in Heredia has to be the Herradura Hotel Golf Resort and Country Club, which sits just 5 miles from the Juan Santamaria International Airport. Given four of the five “Bandas de Sostenibilidad” flags, this resort is a superb example of how to achieve a harmonious balance between natural and social resources. Another excellent golf resort in Heredia is the Residencias del Golf Hotel which is located 15 minutes from downtown San Jose.

While Heredia is great for those who love the outdoors, there are a number of places here where one can lie back and enjoy the gorgeous beauty around. The Cibeles Resort Hotel Cabinas & Spa is located near downtown Heredia and has superb views of the Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo. Another wonderful spa in Heredia is an upscale inn located near the Juan Santamaria International Airport and a short distance from San Jose, the Travelers Inn in Cariari. Both resort spas have many amenities and services for its guests as they help to rejuvenate both your body and your mind amid stunning locations.
