With its diversified landscape North Puntarenas is a fantastic place for an adventure either by yourself or with your family. Jaco, Manuel Antonio and Quepos are all key tourist towns in North Puntarenas with tons of tourists coming here every year. Most tour operators in this part of the province provide activities ranging from mountain biking and fishing to canopy tours, horseback rides, dolphin watching tours, sea kayaking and of course, whitewater rafting.

Zip Lines Spots

This region offers some amazing zip line and canopy tours. In the north of the province sits the incredible cloud forest reserves of Monteverde and Santa Elena, which offers perfect picturesque views of nature in its prime. Just past Playa Hermosa and before Quepos you will find the Rainmaker Aerial Walkway. Around 10 km east of Parrita, this walkway was the first canopy tour of its kind in Central America.

Water Activities

On the Nicoya Peninsula, scuba diving and surfing is best around the Mal Pais and Santa Theresa area and near Montezuma. Just south of Jaco sits Playa Hermosa, a mecca for surfers from all across the globe. Host to the international Quicksilver Surf Championships held every year in August, this quiet beach is for serious professional surfers only. For a sportfishing adventure Quepos is the place to be, with a huge variety of game fish found in the area.

Inner Peace

In North Puntarenas, spas are found at many of the major hotels located along the Central Pacific Coast between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Most of these hotels also offer plenty of recreational facilities such as tennis, horseback riding, and a variety of water sports. There is a wonderful hotel and spa in the Dominical area as well, the Cuna del Angel Hotel. On the Nicoya Peninsula, there are a few hotels and resorts with spas as well. You can find them in the Mal Pais and Santa Theresa area as well as at Tambor. Up north in Monteverde, you can enjoy the Hotel Montana Monteverde, which also has a spa.

The Best Golf

North Puntarenas also has a number of golf resorts. The best golf resort in this region has to be the Los Sueños Marriott Beach and Golf Resort, considered to be one of the best all inclusive resorts in the country. Located in Playa Herradura, the La Iguana Golf Course at the Marriott has 18 holes with a par of 72; Spread out over 6,707 yards, this course is border by the Pacific Ocean on one side and a forest on the other. On the other hand, in the Tambor area, there are two 9-hole course golf resorts—The Los Delfines, which sits next to the Barceló Tambor Resort, and the Tango Mar Hotel Beach and Golf Resort.
