Sailfish in Southern Costa Rica
With a wealth of activities to enjoy, North Puntarenas is one of the most visited regions in Costa Rica. Offering something everyone, this part of the country is not only beautiful, but it is also easily accessible from the capital San Jose. Beautiful sceneries, stunning beaches, lush rainforests and an amazing plethora of wildlife dominate this part of Costa Rica, making it an incredible place to vacation in.

Of all the things to enjoy in North Puntarenas, sportfishing is among the most popular activities in the province. Here, one can find a fantastic array of sport fish just off the Central Pacific coast, making fishing here an angler’s delight. If are an avid fisherman, you can even plan a fishing tour of North Puntarenas with a local travel agency, and arrange to tour all the places in this part of the province where sportfishing is at its best.

Quepos is perhaps the most well known angling destination in North Puntarenas and attracts a number of serious sportfishermen from all over the globe. Sailfish, marlin, tuna, dorado, wahoo and snook are found easily off the coast here, along with snappers, roosterfish and broomtail groupers. There are a number of boat rental companies found in Quepos as well as sportfishing tour guides that can help you plan the ultimate fishing holiday.

An angling hotspot, Quepos sits south of Jaco next to the Manuel Antonio National Park. Accommodations in North Punarenas are aplenty out here with restaurants, bars, clubs, and shopping, making this the perfect place to spend a few days. You can either rent a boat and go out fishing on your own, or if you like, go on an offshore fishing tour of the region.

Another recognized fishing destination is at the Marriott Los Sueños Resort at Playa Herradura. Home to a 250-slip marina, many sport fishing tours are also conducted from this dock. A premier location with some top-class sportfishing, most people usually charter a boat from here and head out into the open waters of the Pacific.

Puntarenas, Manuel Antonio, Jaco and Paquera also offer sportfishing opportunities offshore with many hotels, tour companies, boat clubs and resorts including fishing as part of their tour itineraries.
