With a plethora of activities and tours to join in, this province is a wonderful region for an outdoor adventure.
Keeping you busy for days on end, there are plenty of places across Southern Puntarenas to enjoy. One of the most popular activities in this area has to be sportsfishing. An angler’s dream, this part of Costa Rica has plenty of fishing opportunities that are not to be missed. Drake Bay offers sportfishing for the more serious fishermen as well as those who just want to spend a quiet day out on the open seas. With plenty of boats available for rent ranging from small tug boats to fully equipped luxury cruisers, the fishing here is first-rate.
Most of the lodges in Drake Bay arrange for fishing tours and outings for their own guests, however, if you like, you can organize your own angling adventure with a tour operator or travel company in the area as well. A number of lodges, resorts and inns in and around the Parque Nacional Corcovado also offer fishing tours and trips as part of their vacation package.
Located in the Golfo Dulce near the Corcovado National Park, Puerto Jimenez also has some good sportfishing opportunities. The best time to go fishing in this area is between the months of November and March. Besides local tour companies, many hotels here also plan fishing excursions. The area around Cabo Matapalo and Carate is also a good place to fish.
Golfito and Zancudo in the northern Golfo Dulce area have plenty of fishing opportunities as well. Golfito is a former banana port, while Zancudo is known for is lovely dark sand beach. With year round fishing available, many avid anglers come here to catch a huge variety of species including the much sought after Pacific Sailfish. December is one of the best months to go fishing here.
