Find a Non Profit in Alajuela

Leatherback Turtle's First Steps
Today, many non-profit organizations can be found in Alajuela and throughout the rest of Costa Rica as well. These organizations range from small to large groups that help protect Costa Rica’s natural and human resources. From saving rainforests to protecting endangered flora and fauna of Costa Rica, there are many non-profit organizations located here.

In Alajuela, there are a number of non-profit organizations such as the Amigos de las Aves, the Albergue Heliconias and the Fundacion La Fuerza Unida. All these organizations also have volunteer programs as well for which you can sign up to help protect the people and environment in Alajuela.

The Amigos de las Aves is a non-profit organization created to protect the endangered Great Green Macaw and the Scarlet Macaw, both of which are rare macaw species. This organization helps to breed these birds and then re-introduce them into the wild.

The Albergue Heliconias is an ecotourism and forest conservation project that works with the Bijagua Association of Agricultural Producers to safeguard the forests around the Volcan Tenorio area, where many farms are located. Bijagua is a small community in between the province of Alajuela and the province of Guanacaste. This non-profit organization provides the people of this area with alternative farming methods so that they do not deforest the area any further.

The Fundacion La Fuerza Unida or The United Force is a non-profit organization that raises money to send street children to school in Alajuela. The money this organization collects gets used to buy a child; school supplies, uniforms, books and shoes, none of which are provided by the public school system in Costa Rica.
