Leatherback Turtle's First Steps
The sunny province of Guanacaste is a great destination to vacation in. Here you can find a wealth of beautiful beaches to sit and relax on, or if you like, you can explore the Guanacaste, Santa Rosa and Rincon de la Vieja national parks all lying in the northwestern area of the province. Famed for its excellent beaches, in Guanacaste you can enjoy a variety of water sports from some top class surfing to excellent snorkeling and diving.

There are a number of non-profit organizations operating in Guanacaste at the moment. These concerns support a wide range of program from poverty alleviation to protecting the environment, education and other conservation activities. While a number of non-profit organizations are based in Guanacaste, many organizations just have offices here, while they are based in San Jose.

LEAPNow is a non-profit organization that works in Guanacaste by offering various programs for local communities. Made up of volunteers, this NGO has various programs its uses to help the people of the province, including building homes for poor and under privileged families, adult literacy courses and conservation plans such as saving endangered sea turtles.

Travel to Teach is a non-profit organization in Guanacaste that lets people traveling abroad volunteer and teach English to the locals in the area. Based in the Nicoya Peninsula, this program lets its volunteers teach English language classes as well as computer skills to poor parts of the province, where little education is provided.

Another wonderful non-profit organization in Guanacaste is CEPIA or Culture, Education and Psychology for Infants and Adolescents. This organization offers programs for children and young people from poor families who have no or very little access to education or culture. These children are often very poor and live in difficult family situations, thus needing counseling and care. By collaborating with local schools and other organization CEPIA hopes to help children and adolescents grow up healthy and strong and able to lead a positive life.
