Arenal Volcano
Economical and efficient, tour companies are a great advantage for anyone on vacation. Ideal for a stress free trip, these travel firms plan out your entire holiday for you so that you see the best a country has to offer, without having to do anything yourself. Providing you with guides, accommodation, transportation and tours, travel companies can even customize your vacation to meet your needs.

Cartago lies just east of San Jose and is a wonderful area to explore. Situated in Costa Rica’s Central Valley, the weather here is superb and with the many tourist attractions found in the province of Cartago, this region is perfect for those travelers who like spending their time outdoors. To the north of Cartago sits the Turrialba and Irazu Volcanoes, both protected by national parks. Ideal for those who enjoy hiking, trekking, and horseback riding, the views from atop both the volcano summits are truly breathtaking.

A key tourist destination in Cartago has to be the Monumento Nacional Guayabo, the largest and most significant archeological site in the country. Home to an ancient civilization, the excavations here have uncovered a sophisticated aqueduct system as well as inexplicable petroglyphs.

For those who want to know more about Costa Rica’s rare flora, a tour of the Lankaster Gardens is a must, especially if you are an avid horticulturist. With over 8,000 species of orchid grown here, this garden also has on display bromeliads, palms and other tropical plants.

If you are interested in an adventure tour, try whitewater rafting on the Rios Reventazón and Pacuare in Cartago. With various classes of rapids found in this part of the province, the whitewater rafting here is some of the best in the country.

There are a number of tour companies in Cartago that will not only arrange your tours for you, but will also make your travel arrangements as well. Look for tour operators accredited by the Costa Rican Tourist Board and make sure that your excursions are guided all the way. Also don’t forget to ask for a bilingual tour guide. If you are visiting Costa Rica during peak tourist season, make an early tour booking to avoid disappointment.
