Rafiki Safari Lodge is a luxury safari lodge offering horseback riding whitewater rafting and hiking.

Overview

Cabin at Rafiki Safari Lodge
Cabin at Rafiki Safari Lodge

Rafiki is a wilderness luxury tent camp and conservation project focusing on adventurous sustainable tourism. The lodge is nestled on 842 acres of pristine jungle along the Savegre River, 30 km south of Quepos and Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica.

Guests can enjoy a wide variety of activities such as whitewater rafting, horseback riding to waterfalls, hiking, and world-class birding. You don't need to be an avid birder or into eco tourism to enjoy our truly unique accommodations and natural beauty.

Rafiki is a family owned lodge. The Boshoff family started the project in 1999 in hopes of using tourism to build a wildlife refuge and Tapir re-introduction program. The first stage of the project, the lodge and cabins, was completed in December of 2002.

Currently the lodge sees travelers from all over the world.

Accommodations and Amenities at Rafiki Safari Lodge

Our luxury Safari tents are set atop hardwood decks, each with rocking chairs, so you can sit back and admire the view in privacy. Imported from South africa, the tent's design lets you experience nature up close while keeping the insects at bay.

Each unit features its own modern, complete bathroom. Whether you are on your honeymoon, want to bring a group of friends and family, or business associates, Rafiki provides the perfect atmosphere. While our property is a nature retreat... it is hardly roughing it!

Our nine spacious luxury safari tents comfortably sleep up to four people. The large windows bring the sounds and the smells of the forest in, while the canvas walls keep the creepies and the elements out. Enjoy the magnificent views from your private porch! Our showers are fire heated to take the chill out of the spring water.

We also have a honeymoon suite for couples. Our honeymoon suite is set slightly further in the jungle. The honeymoon suite features a fire-heated outdoor jacuzzi, private sun deck, and tropical garden.

The Lekker Bar and Braai

Let the Boshoff family treat you to a South African braai (barbeque) or enjoy other fabulous cuisine prepared by our resident chef. Our food, hospitality, and accommodations are unparalleled. Rafiki's pristine location and our little touch of Africa will ensure that you have an unforgettable experience.

Treat yourself to a delicious South African Braai (BBQ) cooked on our grill, accompanied by side dishes prepared by our professional and local chef. Enjoy a tasty beverage from the bar while being enchanted by the natural beauty that Rafiki has to offer!

Activities

Activities at Rafiki Safari Lodge

Explore the rainforest, enjoy amazing vistas, cross a huge suspension bridge, learn about Costa Rica culture, and try a delicious fire cooked meal...all in one day!
Rafiki has the unique opportunity to provide tours right from the front door. We are set right on the Savegre River and lowland tropical forest to provide you and your family with unforgettable adventure. Our guides are locally raised and internationally trained. Each guide speaks fluent English and Spanish and are well hearsed in natural history. We specialize in 3 activities at Rafiki, white water rafint, a waterfall hike and horseback riding.

Our Whitewater rafting trip is a 13 km class II-III float with lots of fun rapids. We are the only company to do hot lunch on the side of the river, and provide restrooms 1/2 way down the river. We also stop at a gorgeous waterfall along way. Rafiki customizes rafting trips through the use of season and family specific boats. You and your family will have your own boat, unless you choose a mini me adventure, which means you might have more than one boat!

The Aqua hike was created to share the jewel of Quebrada Arroyo with Rafiki guests. The stream ecosystem of Quebrada Arroyo is fed by underground springs and cascades into the Savegre Valley through a series of gorgeous waterfalls. The people of the small village of Quebrada Arroyo have realized the beauty of this place and converted their focus from agriculture to ecotourism. Their project is called Los Campesinos. As a cooperative, they have constructed an infrastucture to host guests amist one of the largest waterfalls of the stream and have created a trail system to fully enjoy their little paradise. The aqua hike allows Rafiki to intergrate into their project and explore some fantastic natural history that the area offers.

Our horseback trip take you deeper into the forest. On the back of one of our sturdy horses, you will let your feet rest and your eyes wander. Our naturalist will interpret the flora and fauna along the way... We also have a combination trip that combines horseback riding with a rafting trip.
