The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum is part of the Central Bank Museums.
An underground cultural center, the Central Bank Museums offer several attractions for the visitor in one place. The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum is one of the few of its kind. It has a superb collection of objects in gold that reflect the world view, social structure and metallurgy of Costa Rican pre-Columbian people.

The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum is one of the few Pre-Columbian gold museums that exist worldwide. The exhibition consists of 1000 original pieces that date from 300 to 1500 A.C The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum has an extraordinary collection of gold objects that reflect the gold working techniques of the Pre-Columbian peoples of Costa Rica. The exhibition shows the use, function, and technology of the pieces as well as their connection to nature and the daily life of these human groups.

The Gold Exhibition is divided into two levels:

(1) Introductory and orientation area on the second level of the building that interprets the social and cultural evolution of Pre-Columbian cultures. Also explained in this space is the development of metallurgy in Costa Rica, its stages and styles.

(2) Exhibition of gold pieces (on the third level of the building). In this section the different uses and meanings of the gold objects can be appreciated. Before seeing the collection, the visitor can view an introductory video.

Golden Evening
The Golden Evening exhibits the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum and the origins of the pre-Hispanic culture. Discover the beauty of the gold pieces highlighted by specials sounds and music. Visitors will be accompanied by professional bilingual guides. At the end, enjoy a delicious cocktail or a formal dinner with a wonderful floral decoration.

The Golden Evening includes:
  • The opening the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum exclusively for the group.

  • A demonstration by indigenous artisans of various arts and crafts.

  • A small gift wrapped in a traditionally knitted bag made by Costa Rican indigenous peoples that include a 24 karat gold plated bronze piece.

  • A cocktail or formal dinner, surrounded by a wonderful decoration.


  • Golden Family Night Tour
    The Golden Family Night Tour is a cultural attraction exhibiting indigenous Costa Rican culture and is specially made for families that would like to share in an awesome experience. The tour shows the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum where visitors, accompanied by specialized guides, will discover the beauty and complexity of the gold pieces. After visiting the Museum, families can participate in a creative workshop where they will use the technique of repoussé to decorate pectorals and bracelets using their own designs. After the workshop, the participants will enjoy a delicious dinner in the vestibules of the Museum.
