Seek Relaxation and Adventure at Rio Perdido Hotel & Thermal River

Are you looking for an authentic Costa Rica vacation that lets you stay close to the jungle while also providing unique comforts you can’t get anywhere else? If so, head to Guanacaste and book your stay at Rio Perdido Hotel & Thermal River, a cozy set of 30 bungalows nestled in a unique dwarf forest. The hotel is located in Bagaces, within the Tenorio & Miravalles Volcano Area.

Rio Perdido Hotel is nicely secluded, so you’ll have to travel a bit to reach it, but this just adds to the experience once you arrive! At approximately 215 kilometers (134 miles) north of the San José International Airport (SJO), you can take a domestic flight to Liberia, which is just an hour’s drive away from the hotel.

The hotel is well-known for its focus on sustainable tourism, which is just one reason why it’s one of Costa Rica’s best eco lodges. In addition to the beautiful natural surroundings, from the lush jungle to picturesque gorge to the towering waterfalls, rooms are designed to minimize environmental impact, and hotel profits go toward efforts to protect Costa Rica’s unique habitats. The hotel allows people from all over the world to experience the “lost river” without having a harmful impact on this little section of paradise.

One way in which the Rio Perdido incorporates the majesty of nature into the hotel itself is through the thermal river, which is accessible to guests who desire the once-in-a-lifetime experience of taking a dip in a natural hot spring. Soothe your body and mind in these volcanically heated waters, or enjoy a relaxing trip to the hotel spa, followed by a delicious meal of authentic Costa Rican cuisine at the on-site restaurant.

Guests seeking a more active vacation and the full ‘Pura Vida’ experience can also take advantage of the hotel’s prime location for more than 20 miles of hiking trails. Other activities accessible from the hotel include relaxing cliff-side yoga and adrenaline pumping mountain biking, white water rafting, and zip-lining.

The rooms at Rio Perdido Hotel & Thermal River consist of 30 bungalows designed with a unique mix of modern stylings and sustainability practices. The interiors feature natural materials like wood and rope accents alongside concrete floors and stainless steel surfaces, reflecting the careful balance between the natural and manmade worlds that is embodied by the hotel.

Bungalows feature spacious interiors surrounded by windows, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the views of the jungle, or to draw the curtains for privacy as needed. All rooms are outfitted with private bathrooms with showers, flat-screen or projection TVs, and free WiFi for guest convenience. Bungalows come in three different styles: East, Center King, and Center Queen.

East Bungalows

East Bungalows come with a pair of twin beds that can be pushed together to form a king bed, as well as a trundle bed. The rooms are especially versatile for people traveling solo or in a small group, and can accommodate both couples and parents traveling with a single child.

Amenities include a work desk, access to an elevated terrace with an outdoor hammock, an in-room coffee station, a minifridge, and spacious closet. Bathrooms have lighted makeup mirrors, sandblasted windows for maximum privacy and ceramic tile and glass accents.

Center Bungalow King

The lush surrounding forest is on full display through the floor-to-ceiling windows featured in the Center Bungalow King. Steel and copper finishes accent singed wood walls treated with a Japanese burning technique that gives them a modern look you have to see to believe!

The King Center bungalows have a king bed and two twins, making them the ideal choice for families or groups. At 750 square feet, the bungalows are spacious and come with a side-by-side outdoor shower within a steel shell for 100% privacy. Bungalows also include a terrace with hammock and AV system with roll-away, high-definition projector plus pull-down screen and sound bar.

Center Bungalow Queen

Queen Center bungalows have two queen beds making them a perfect choice for friends or families. Like the Center Bungalow King rooms, this layout also features floor-to-ceiling windows, providing a panoramic view of the forest, as well as interiors furnished with warm wood tones and a volcanic rock floor to provide a more immersive experience.

At similar size to the Center King Bungalow rooms and double the size of the East Bungalows, they also come with double private outdoor showers, a spacious terrace, and an AV system consisting of a high-definition projector, pull-down screen, and sound bar.
