Miraflores Lodge offers a comfortable and safe place to be in the middle of nature. The hostel was built and operated by Pamela Carpenter. Pamela is an American raised in Latin America and is fluent in both English and Spanish. She has used her love of flowers and her appreciation for the traditions of the local Bri Bri Indians and Caribbean people in developing Miraflores Lodge.

Miraflores lodge is the first ecolodge in Puerto Viejo, started over twenty years ago by Pamela Carpenter. My girlfriend and I visited the lodge for three days and highly recommend it, mostly for the exceptional service.
Pamela, the owner, goes out of her way to make sure your needs are met. In our case, she arranged a special taxi to take us to the border, helped to setup dinner reservations, made us an on the house breakfast, and spent ample time just conversing with us about her life story. And, her life story is remarkable.
Pamela was born in Panama in the Canal Zone and later helped to start an alternative political party in Panama before fleeing the country. She has setup an organic flower business, designed the ecolodge herself, and raised money for a Monkey Bridge in Puerto Viejo to make sure the howler monkeys can cross the increasingly busy road. It is worth it to stay there just to met Pamela and she will definitely take care of you.
