My Husband and I just got back from our honeymoon in Costa Rica. We took two tours with Jacamar Tours, The tour guides were exceptionally knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful. We went to Arenal Volcano and El Tabacon spa what a beautiful place. When they picked us up at the spa to head back to our resort, a woman on the tour was not feeling well something with her stomach, our tour guide took her to the clinic to get some meds in the town of Fortuna, and ask us if we would like to tour the town while we waited, we agree and were happy to be able to tour the town, the driver of the van was very nice and stayed with us and showed us around town until the other tourist was treated, they took care of her quickly and we were back on our way in half an hour.
Our second tour, we went to Boriquen, we did not want to do the zip line, so we just used the spa and got massages and ate lunch. Our tour guide was Carlos, what an intelligent, nice person. He took his time to explain to us the plants, animals, birds etc. It was facinating to hear him speak with such passion and pride for his beautiful country and all the beaty they have to offer. We had the best expierence with all our tour guides, driver and van rides. They stop showed us the monkeys, tucans, woodpeckers and other species along the way.
Both tours were great and the tour guides were very knowledgeable.
Would definitely use this company again and recommend them.

We chose 2 excursions: 1. Arenal Volacano/Tabacon Hot Springs and Monteverde Hanging Bridges & Cloud Forest, 2. Green Turtle Nesting. The first excursion included travelling by bus, taking a boat on Lake Arenal to view wildlife and the volcano and then going on to the hot springs at Tabacon, before over-nighting at a nice resort. Overall this day was good and the guides spoke english and provided information and background with respect to the sites visited. Food was good, the hot springs were very nice. The place we over-nighted at was nicer than our own resort, and the food there was good, and the staff were quite friendly. Alcoholic beverages were not included in the 392USD/person price tag for this 2 day trip. After over-nighting we travelled by mini-bus to Monteverde to do zip-lining, Tarzan swing and walk the hanging bridges. When purchasing the trip, much was made of the "over 1 km long zip-line, the longest anywhere" but when we got there we were cut back from 13 lines to 11 and at one time there was talk of as few as 8 lines. Of course, one of the lines they removed was the much ballyhooed 1 km long line. It was also once we were there that we were informed that the weight limit for doing the Tarzan swing is 90Kg/200lbs so if you weigh over that now you can't participate in that part either. You don't get a discount for not getting all 13 lines or for not getting to do the Tarzan swing. This was quite disappointing as now we felt like we did not get what we paid for...what we were told we were getting. The tour guides were very nice, and the zip-line staff were very nice and helpful, taking good care to ensure safety and make those who were apprehensive feel more at ease. The actual activity is a lot of fun, we just wish we had gotten what we thought we were getting when we purchased. Also, the equipment while sturdy and in good repair smelled like a hockey bag full of sweaty pads. Food was good at the restaurant. Guide provided a lot of knowledge of local plants, trees, etc during the walking portion.
The Green Turtle Nesting was not as far to travel as the volcano/zip-lining. With the help of our tour guides and local beach guides looking for turtles we did in fact see turtles coming out of the water and coming up the beach. We also saw the turtle laying her eggs in the nest she had prepared and then covering it in before getting ready to return to the ocean. There was a fair amount of walking involved though and some of that was over some narrow trails at night (every second person had a flashlight). Sandwiches provided were good. Guides were good. Overall, an enjoyable trip.
I gave 3/5, but would probably have given 3.5 if it was an option.

I checked with 3 excursion companies in La Fortuna before booking a package with Jacamar Naturalist Tours. The day of the tour, no one picked me up for the first tour and when the hotel called for me, they said that they had forgotten to give my pickup information to the driver and that I could come get my money back. I was disappointed and walked down to their sales office which was closed. Later that day, I returned and retrieved my money. I asked if they wished to offer me a complementary tour the next day because of their error that morning. They agreed and I chose a waterfall tour with a 11:40 pick-up time and their assurances that I would return by 1:30 in plenty of time to catch my bus back to San Jose. The next day at the appointed time, no one cane to pick me up until 12:07, a time by which I has already decided to abandon the hopes of going to the waterfall. When the van finally did come and I told them I was not going on the tour, they asked me to wait so that their boss could call me. After another 7-8 minutes of waiting, I wrote my email address on a paper and had just started to walk out to the van to give it to them since I had done more than enough waiting for Jacamar Tours and the van drove off just as I was starting to walk out to it. I would not recommend this company.

We took the all day adventure tour. Our guide David was excellent. We started out horseback riding to a waterfall. Next we went tubing down a river. The guides on the river worked very hard keeping us safe and moving. Then we had lunch which was very good. A quich change of clothes and we were off zip lining, repelling and rock climbing. We ended the day with a relaxing soak in the hot springs.

My wife and I just went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. While we were there we went on 2 tours through Jacamar Tours. The first one was to Borinquen where we went horseback riding, zip lining, and took hot mud baths. This tour was one that we will remember forever. David was our guide for this tour. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. This man truly has a passion for his country, especially the birds. He was able to get beautiful pictures of toucans for us through his binoculars and many other birds. He took a lot of pictures for us and a video as we were zip lining. Over lunch he told us more about his country and the way of life in Costa Rica, we learned so much through him. Our second tour was to the Arenal Volcano. Sergio was our guide on this tour. This man was filled with more knowledge of not just his own country but of the world. We were extremely impressed with everything he knew. Even though he has done these tours over and over, he shows excitement like it's his first time. He did everything he could to make sure we saw the animals we were interested in, even if it meant pulling off to the side of the road at night on the way home to find me a sloth! We highly recommend these two men for your guides when traveling in Guanacaste. -Tim and Dayna

My husband and I went on a tour with Jacamar tours the middle of February. The tour guide named david based out of Liberia was extremely personal, and intelligent. We enjoyed hearing about his home town and looking and finding the animals along the jungle walk. We were very impressed with the knowledge this guide has, not only of the area the tour was on, but also of the entire country. He was able to make all sorts of sounds in the jungle, calling out to the different birds, took pictures using binoculars to get close ups and overall was a very admirable young man. Your company is very fortunate to have such a qualified person on staff. Way to go! Thanks so much for a visit to the hotsprings, volcano and jungle.
