Blue Jay Lodge Pool & Nature
Blue Jay Lodge Pool & Nature

Blue Jay Lodge is located in the center of Mal Pais, only a short walk to the beach where you can enjoy many activities. Blue Jay Lodge offers comfortable and private bungalows in a natural setting in the forest.

For beach and nature lovers, the quiet seaside village of Mal Pais has it all - surfing, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, horseback riding, ocean fishing, nearby Cabo Blanco National Park and Nature Reserve, birdwatching, wildlife, swimming and sunbathing, and some of the most intense sunsets in Costa Rica!

About twenty years ago, we had a dream. We fell in love with some beautiful property a short walk from the beach in Mal Pais that was once home to a virgin growth of hardwood trees. Unfortunately, in the 1950's, the Costa Rican government supported wide scale, clear cutting of the forests to make more pasture land for cattle ranching. Our dream was to restore this pasture land to a more natural balance between nature and man. Soon, we started our reforestation project and we began to plant native trees on the entire property. Because of this, all of the hardwood and lumber for the new bungalows, restaurant , the beds and furnature has come from a small portion of the thousands of maturing trees we planted on 50 hectares. Wildlife has also returned to the area; iguanas, pizotes, parrots, monkeys, deer and of course, the blue jays!

Come and stay in one of our seven private bungalows, spaced out over five hectares (12 acres). Palm fronds over the weatherproof roofs help the cabins blend into the natural surroundings and keep your bungalow comfortable. For the more adventurous and young at heart, please request one of our bungalows higher up the hillside. They are a little bit more of a walk, but you'll be higher up in the trees and closer to the monkeys travelling through! Also, from these cabins, you'll be able to watch the ocean waves while you relax or read a book in your hammock.

Each bungalow (cabin) has a private bathroom with a shower, hot water, two beds, ceiling fan and two hammocks. Daily maid service is also included.
