Costa Rica is a country that’s as diverse as its wide-ranging landscape, and if you’re thinking of relocating permanently to the country and desire true, traditional living, the Heredia province is likely where you should begin your search. The province has long been known as the continuation of the embodiment of true Costa Rican culture, and one look at the countryside in this area and you’ll understand exactly what that means.

In terms of geography, the Heredia province sits in the northern central part of Costa Rica, and Nicaragua sits to its north. The region is entirely landlocked, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t still be able to enjoy several different types of vegetation, landscapes and other visual phenomena that help to make this region as well-known as it is around the world.

Generally, in terms of architecture, the building style in Heredia tends to mirror its culture – truly traditional works can be found in every town, city and everywhere in between. This colonial architecture features a distinctive Spanish flavor, which is clearly logical given the explorers who began to build here several hundred years ago.

One of the reasons that the province is known for its adherence to tradition is because it’s generally known as the least explored province in Costa Rica relative to the others, and many assume that’s because of its lack of coastline. Regardless, the region offers many different options for living near bodies of water, as raging, untouched rivers and rain forests litter the area that’s otherwise known for its plains and rolling hills.

There are also options for those who want to live here regarding lifestyle, as even though Heredia is not heavily traveled by visitors, it does offer several different cities of varying sizes that start with the capital of Heredia. Other quaint establishments include San Isidro, La Virgen and Volcan Barba, all of which offer something quite unique.

In terms of living options, all you need to do is formulate a picture in your mind and begin your search. Heredia offers the utmost in modernity by way of new homes and expansive condominium developments, but if you want to truly live the life of a local, you can move more towards traditional Spanish colonial homes or even rural farm homes.

It all starts with getting to know this province, and the true tradition of Costa Rica and its culture is truly personified in Heredia. Get started by looking at all of the choices available to you today.
