With its impressive natural beauty and ideal year-round climate, outdoor adventure activities are extremely popular for anyone visiting Costa Rica.

Water Sports

While many travelers will take advantage of land activities such as hiking, ATV riding, cave exploration and exploring volcanoes, it is important to remember that water-based recreational opportunities are abundant as well.

One such activity, parasailing, is only for the most adventurous travelers, but allows these people to catch a glimpse of some of the most breathtaking views of the landscape. First conceived as an adventure activity decades ago, parasailing typically involves a boat towing a person who is attached to a parachute. Once the boat begins to move, the person is lifted into the air for a thrill ride unlike any other.

Without requiring any formal training, parasailing is an extremely unique way to get a birds-eye view of Costa Rica's beautiful landscape. While your less adventurous friends or family members enjoy a nice, relaxing day at the beach, you can gracefully glide through the air and look down on them as if they were ants.

Watch Whales and Dolphins

In addition, parasailing is an excellent way to truly appreciate the marine wildlife that Costa Rica is known for. While sitting hundreds of feet above the water, travelers will have a unique chance to view the dolphins, whales, turtles and other creatures that can typically only be seen during a boat tour. A number of tour companies throughout Costa Rica offer this once-in-a-lifetime chance to view the spectacular landscape from high up.

Where to Practice

Over the past few years, parasailing has become increasingly popular for visitors to Manuel Antonio, which is situated on Costa Rica's central Pacific coast. Located just over two hours away from the capital city of San Jose, Manuel Antonio boasts some of the country's most pristine coastline and beaches, making it an ideal destination for adventure travelers and their families to spend the afternoon.

No matter one's experience level, parasailing can be an exhilarating experience for travelers of all ages and skill levels. These tourists will be properly trained by the various tour companies to ensure their safety throughout this exciting journey.
