Overview

Private hotel named Ciudad Perdida Ecolodge
Private hotel named Ciudad Pérdida Ecolodge

Cahuita is a small tropical paradise of white sandy beaches and looming forests in which time seems to have stopped. Nestled in this quiet reserve is the Ciudad Perdida Ecolodge, a small, three-bedroom hotel that puts the “eco” back in “ecolodge.”

Ciudad Perdida Ecolodge was founded with the mission of preserving the natural beauty of the Cahuita while still providing visitors with an opportunity to stay comfortably within its confines. The hotel has a very low environmental impact but provides a great source of income for the surrounding community. This particular ecolodge has successfully married the tourism, economic, social and cultural environment of the area in a responsible way.

Though most guests come to Cahuita to explore the National Park, a preserve inhabited by howler monkeys, sloths, white faced monkeys, iguanas, turtles, toucans and more, the town itself is a colorful and vibrant place worth visiting. Founded by African fishermen, Cahuita is a place of unique culture that is reflected in everything from the architecture to the music. Your stay won’t be complete without taking a chocolate tour in Puerto Viejo, or without a trip to Aby’s Boutique, a boutique where you can find small treasures of local origin to take home with you.

Right on the outskirts of the palm tree forest are white sandy beaches, which meet with the crystal clear waters most people only see on postcards. Deep beneath the surface is a whole other community of wildlife, which includes coral reefs, exotic fish, sea turtles and more.

If you’re a surfer, take a trip to Playa Negra, a beach known for its strong and constant waves. If you’ve been wanting to learn to surf, take lessons at the Jungle Surf School and Adventures. Kids and adults alike enjoy the Sloth Sanctuary, where compassionate and trained handlers care for and rehabilitate injured and orphaned sloths.

When guests stay at the Ciudad Perdida Ecolodge, they have a choice between three different types of lodging, each its own separate structure. Each sleeps at least five. The hotel offers free breakfast daily, and each room comes equipped with a refrigerator where you can store leftovers from town.
