Quiet, relaxing facility within easy walking distance of beaches and several good restaurants. Good breakfast in the morning, and good food and adult beverages at the Monkey Bar in the evenings. Pools, grounds and other facilities always kept remarkably clean. The helpful folks at concierge desk will assist to coordinate just about any activity that suits your mood.

Our family of 4 (2 teenage daughters, 50 something parents) spent a week at the Playa Flamingo Marina Resort. I selected this hotel after much research, looking for a large apartment/condo that was close to the main objectives of the trip (sun, surfing lessons, and canopy tour). For the most part, the hotel fit the bill perfectly. The 2 bedroom condo was spacious, had excellent air conditioning, was right next to one of the several pools on the property, and was very well maintained. In fact the Playa Marina was perhaps the cleanest place we've seen in our 5 years of spring break trips to the Caribbean and Central America. Contrary to some of the reviews, we found the staff very helpful and friendly; perhaps others were frustrated because some of the help spoke poor English.
We took surfing lessons in Tamarindo, about 20 miles down the coast. This is the major town around the area. I was worried that we picked too remote a place, but after two days of lessons we decided that we'd seen enough of the town.....the same stuff for sale in all of the shops, some nasty smells from some water flowing into the ocean, and dust and dirt. There are supposed to be some very nice places in Tamarindo. Surfing was fun, and the beaches were nice.
