With first rate surfing and some superb beaches, Tamarindo is the perfect place to chill on the Pacific Coast of Guanacaste province. Lying in the northwestern region of the Nicoya Peninsula, Tamarindo acts as a wonderful base camp to tour the region. And with a number of quality hotels, resorts, accommodations, restaurants, bars, nightlife, and tours found here, this laidback town is the ideal place to have some excellent fun in the sun.
Tamarindo is among the few towns in Costa Rica to have its own airport. The Tamarindo Domestic Airport or ‘TNO’ as it is known; is a private airstrip just 3 km north of the town. A hotel bus normally picks up the passengers from the airport. However, you can always catch a ride into town via taxi, which are readily found around the airport area.
A paved landing strip set amid lush green fields, the Tamarindo Domestic Airport is a 15 minute ride from the center of town, with regular flight by SANSA and Nature Air landing here on a daily basis. Nature Air has 3 flights everyday from the Pavas Domestic Airport in San Jose City, and SANSA also offers 3 flights. SANSA has a booking office in Tamarindo town, while Nature Air has a travel desk at the Hotel El Diria. The Tamarindo airstrip belongs to the Hotel El Diria and all passengers who use this airport have to pay a departure tax of US$ 3 before they lave.
If you are more comfortable you can also fly into the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia and then drive 45 minutes out here. Rental cards and taxi services are easily found in and around the airport. From Tamarindo you can tour many other towns and beaches along the Gold Coast including; Playa Negra, Playa Avellana, Playa Grande, Playa Flamingo, Playa Brasilito and the Marino Las Baulas National Park.
