Overview

Selva Verde Lodge
Selva Verde Lodge

At Selva Verde Lodge, immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and scents of the primary rainforest of Costa Rica. Listen to the calls of macaws and toucans and the songs of frogs as you relax on a balcony overlooking the jungle. Smell the aromas of heliconia and other tropical flowers after an evening thunderstorm.

View the giant trees and ferns of the preserve from the comfort of a hammock. It is an experience that will stay with you long after you have returned home.

Located on more than 500 acres of protected land, Selva Verde Lodge offers a comfortable and beautiful base from which to enjoy nature at its most biodiverse. Hundreds of creatures live in the forest from howler monkeys to wild cats to reptiles, amphibians and colorful butterflies and moths.

Located just a couple of hours from San José, Selva Verde Lodge allows visitors close views of amazing animals while maintaining a high level of comfort. You can go for a hike deep into the old growth forest, uncovering its secrets, and then return to relax on the verandah in a hammock. Naturalist guides and friendly staff help you enjoy your stay to the fullest.

The dream for the lodge began in 1982 when Giovana Holbrook, a pioneer in ecotourism, put down a payment on a large tract of old-growth forest. Over the next several years, she guided the creation of the lodge, first as a place for researchers to study and then eventually as a haven in the jungle for travelers to enjoy nature. Today the lodge attracts nature enthusiasts from around the globe and is committed to its original vision of sustainable tourism.

The eco-lodge features 47 airy and open guestrooms that are equipped with ceiling fans, wood or tile floors, balcony and private bathroom with shower. Other highlights include an outdoor pool, gardens, restaurant and bar/lounge, conference space and gift shops. There is ample community space to lounge in comfort just a few feet from the splendor of the rainforest.

You can keep active with a variety of activities that bring you up close to the diverse flora and fauna of this protected area of Costa Rica. Guided bird watching walks to see hummingbirds and jacamars, hiking and biking trails to enjoy on your own, or night hikes to look for owls and other nocturnal denizens are all available on site. Kayaking and rafting options are available nearby.

"If you are a nature enthusiast, as I am, you will enjoy Selva Verde Lodge. Located in the rain forest it has many trails to hike a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles comfortable lodging beautiful surroundings and the friendliest staff you want to encounter. What a thrill to wake up to the howler monkey calls and to see the tiny blue jeans frog. I wish I had more time to spend at the lodge (perhaps next time). Wear those boots - they are a godsend!!!
PURA VIDA!!!!!"

"This is a great hotel.. for some people that is! I did not personally like it because it seemed a little bit primitive with the paper thin walls and screened windows and no a/c... some people enjoy that but I'm just not one of those people! It wasn't necessarily a bad experience, but I'd just rather have stayed at a hotel.. not a lodge!"
