Playa Grande is the perfect place in Costa Rica to experience the pleasures of a tropical climate, and the RipJack Inn, a boutique hotel just 75 yards from the beach, is the ideal place to do it. There are plenty of activities there, from yoga to swimming to beach walking or surfing, but visitors can also relax and soak up the sun and the atmosphere. The beaches on the Pacific coast are among the most beautiful and tranquil in Costa Rica. The Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas is also nearby and it is an important Leatherback Marine Turtle nesting site.

Imagine waking in the morning in your quiet, comfortable room to the sound of unfamiliar birds singing just outside your door. Then enjoy having a breakfast of fresh fruit and juices and coffee and spending the rest of the morning lounging in a hammock in the shade. Your afternoon can be spent zip lining, searching for the rare and protected leatherback turtle, horseback riding or taking part in an estuary tour.

When you are ready to wind down for the evening, don’t miss the happy hour at the bar, which features refreshing mojitos, margaritas, rum punch and more. For dinner, you can enjoy fresh, local cuisine in a unique, second-floor tree-top dining room. Dishes include fresh salads and entrees such as grilled Mahi, hot garlic shrimp, a classic cheeseburger and garlic lime chicken with plantains and black beans.

In addition to being known as a surfing and yoga destination, RipJack Inn has a well-deserved reputation as a premier hotel in the Playa Grande region. The hotel staff is friendly and multilingual and seeks to make your stay as wonderful as possible. All rooms are equipped with AC, fans and a room safe. On-site amenities include free WiFi, housekeeping and secure parking.

Located on the Pacific coast in the province of Guanacaste, the small town of Playa Grande is about four hours from the capital, San José. For those looking to make the best use of their vacation time, the Liberia airport is closer. Shuttles to RipJack Inn are available at either location, though the Liberia airport will be a much shorter ride.

"My husband and I made a trip from Playa Flamingo into Tamarindo one day on our honeymoon to see the town and take a surf lesson. The shop in Tamarindo had lost our reservation and the town really wasn't that appealing to us once we got there. One of the employees referred us to the RipJack Inn to rent boards and get a lesson. Once we made it to Playa Grande in our jeep, it was so worth it. The pictures dont do it justice. The beach has been kept in its natural state and its not overrun with people. The RipJack Inn is this small quaint building with rooms on the bottom and a husband and wife team running the restaurant above. By far, it was the best food we had in Costa Rica...the BBQ and fish & the servive were perfect and the sunset was spectacular. If you're making a budget trip to Costa Rica, or you just want to see the real Costa Rica in a laid-back, non-touristy non-generic resort setting, this is the place to go. "
