Finca Luna Nueva is comprised of 208 acres of undulating terrain, of these, 75 are dedicated to rotational planting and grazing, 8 acres are gardens, paths, and infrastructure, and the remaining 125 acres make up our rainforest reserve, which is connected via a biological corridor to the 50,000 plus acre Children's Eternal Rainforest and the Arenal and Monteverde National Park systems. As a result, the many creeks and tall forests on the farm are frequented by an abundance of exotic and fascinating species.

Within this majestic landscape Finca Luna Nueva strives to produce a healthy human community without negatively impacting our local environment. As a certified organic and biodynamic farm, we stand apart from other commercial agriculture systems. Our practice focuses on the intentional production of micro-organisms in our soil and strives to create a continuum between forest and field. We see farming as an art and a privilege and are continuously seeking new ways to live harmoniously in our environment.

Farm Tour :Compost, garden, and farm animals

See what keeps our crops healthy, from our happy water buffalo to the wiggling worms in our compost. Begin by walking through our cacao orchard past our private reserve that is connected to the 50,000 acre Children's Eternal Rainforest via a biological corridor.

Next, stroll through our biointensive garden, where you will taste numerous plants and herbs, the same ones we serve daily in our restaurant. After the garden you will see our pigs, goats, and chickens and learn how they contribute to the sustainability of the farm.

Your tour will end at our composting area, where we will show you how our composting and biodynamic systems create a more fertile land for ourselves and for future generations.

This is our complimentary tour for all Hotel guests.

Corridor Reforestation Project : In an effort to encourage the large mammals such as the jaguar and puma to return to healthy numbers in our forest, we have begun a project building biological corridors. Species which require a large area of forest to live and hunt happily can increase in numbers when they are not confined to a single area or altitude. Due to invasive human intervention much of their natural habitat has been divided.

While we can preserve our section of the rain forest, it won't be enough to preserve its creatures unless their natural habitat is extended. Come with us to this biological corridor and plant a tree to help us achieve our goal of connecting the 50 hectares of Luna Nueva's rain forest with the 22,500 hectares of The Children's Eternal Rain Forest. Our hope is that through planting trees that extend sections of the rain forest we can create protected corridors, enabling wildlife to travel through much larger areas.

"This was an absolutely beautiful week in Costa Rica!! The people and staff were amazing and very friendly. I was so impressed with the ideas and visions that they have here on this farm. I will take home so many memories and ideas to try to implement into our own way of life.
A yoga retreat in this beautiful rainforest was beyond spiritual. I would definitely love to come back again ??"

"After spending three months studying abroad in Costa Rica, I have found my favorite place in the entire country! Such a beautiful place, and very educational. Sitting next to a gorgeous section of primary rainforest, I saw so much wildlife and biodiversity. As soon as I arrived, I felt immediately at home and at peace. I highly recommend this farm for any type of traveler. It's great for small groups or big groups, adventures or relaxers. Loved it."

"Finca Luna Nueva Lodge is one of the most beautiful places on Earth and works to educate and inspire visitors to love the environment by experiencing it firsthand. I was impressed by the luxury of the accommodations and the amount of tropical birds and flowers covering the grounds. The people at the lodge went out of their way to make my experience memorable as I swam in the fresh water pool, solar powered hot tub, and walked through trails in the rain forest. This lodge is where the true form of ecotourism comes into play: they practice sustainable living, environmentally friendly building, work that truly benefits the locals, and environmental education all set in a tropical paradise. Of all the places I visited in Costa Rica, I felt the most at touch with nature and with real Costa Ricans here at Finca Luna Nueva Lodge. "

"Finca Luna Nueva Lodge truly represents what eco-tourism SHOULD stand for in Costa Rica. The tour of the biodynamic/organic farm is educational, exciting, and not to mention beautiful. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and enthusiastic. They truly believe in their mission: bringing together community, conservation, and sustainable agriculture. I am more than happy to support an operation that upholds their ethical standards! On top of all that I learned about biodynamics, the rainforest, and medicinal plants, the facilities were top notch- gorgeous cabins, wonderful local food, and a great hot tub! I would recommend anyone who wanted to learn more about Costa Rica, responsible farming, rainforest conservation in addition to luxurious but affordable accommodations to Finca Luna Nueva Lodge!"
