Things to Bring on White Water Rafting Tours
For the white water rafting trips (Balsa, Toro, Sarapiqui and Kayak Adventure):Shorts, t-shirt, and a swimming suit. Of course, quick drying clothes are best!Sun protection / sun screen for on the river.Tennis shoes (or sandals w/a strap). No flip-flops or saddles not strapped to your foot as you will lose them. Change of clothes and towel for after the trip and get ready to get wet! For the Safari Float: Comfortable clothes. Usually a t-shirt and shorts are fine. Toro River Class 3/4 - Full Day TourThis is the most popular tour. The Toro River (Rio Toro) is the northern zones of Costa Rica most popular river that has adventurous class 3 and 4 rapids. The section of the river that Wave Expeditions runs is about 12 km long and it offers beautiful scenery and of course heart pumping rapids. The river is fed by the waters from the famous Poas Volcano. Once you arrive at the river the tours starts with an important but quick safety lesson then it is off in the rafts. About halfway through the 12 km river Wave Expeidtions will stop for a break and a light snack of tropical fruit. Then back on the rafts to enjoy the rest of the river. At the end of the rapids lunch, drinks and snacks will be served. The tour leaves 8:30 am and returns to La Fortuna / Arenal at 3:30 pm.
Balsa River Class 2/3 - Half Day Rafting TourRafting on the Balsa River is perfect for people who have not rafted before or for people who want a more mellow experience. One you arrive at the river there will be an important water safety lesson and then it is off to the rafts. The rafting is about 2 hours long and ends with a hearty lunch and drinks. Upon arrival at the San Carlos bridge you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the river then a cold soda or beer “Michelada Style”. The tour leaves 11 am and returns to La Fortuna / Arenal at 3:30 pm.
Sarapiqui River Class 2/3 – Full Day Rafting TourSarapiqui River is a class II / III river that is very beautiful and offers a great day of rafting. This river is great for all levels of rafting, experts as well as beginners will enjoy this river. The tour starts with a scenic 80 minute drive through papaya, pineapple and yucca fields with the impressive Arenal Volcano as a backdrop. After a short safety briefing, it is off to the rapids in the rafts. About halfway through the river Wave Expeidtions will stop for a break and a light snack of tropical fruit.
