For those who want to get away from it all, unwind and experience the mystical, untamed Costa Rican Cloud Forest, Hotel Quelitales is the ideal destination. Cachi is a small mountain town nestled along the banks of Cachi Lake. Tucked away at the end of the road at the edge of Cachi, deep in the Orosi Valley, this upscale, eco-friendly lodge in the Peñas Blancas neighborhood provides seclusion and comfort. They offer guests a way to interact with and experience nature without affecting it. Hotel Quelitales has won awards for their hospitality as well as for being a Green Leader, Gold Level.

The mountains of Cartago are often blanketed in fog, cooling the air. With daytime high temperatures hovering around 82 degrees Fahrenheit and a low around 51 degrees Fahrenheit, there is no need for air conditioning. Coupled with the purposeful omission of a television, visitors have the opportunity to experience a level of serenity and quiet not often found in today’s hectic world. Reconnect with nature and explore the local landscape without distraction.

This birdwatcher’s paradise is high in the mountains near Cartago. The hotel’s gardens provide a home for hundreds of bird species such as Herons, Oropendolas, Euphonias and Tanagers. The stream that flows through the gardens attracts an abundance of wildlife, giving you a chance for an up close and personal look at many species in their natural habitat.

Primitive statues, moss-covered paths strewn with leaves and immense tropical greenery provide the starting point for an extraordinary vacation adventure. Bring a jacket, binoculars and comfortable footwear to take advantage of the trails located in the garden as well as others on the property that wind through the virgin forest. Take a plunge in the private pool at the base of the Doña Ana waterfall on the grounds.

Restaurant Casa José, Cocina Fusion, in Hotel Quelitales is one of the top traditional Costa Rican restaurants in the county. With an eye toward sustainability, Chef José Alvarez uses fruit and vegetables grown on-site and sources locally farmed meat and produce for farm to table fare with mouth-watering flare. The windows face the valley and lake for unsurpassed mountain views with a superb meal. Breakfast in the restaurant is complimentary for all guests.

"The Bungalows were beautiful. The employees were the best. I was treated like I was in a 5 star hotel in the US yet I was hidden away in beautiful Costa Rica. I would highly recommend this place to anyone with an adventurous spirit but loving the luxury of a beautiful room with a comfortable bed to come back to at night. Your first adventure will be finding the place but once you do, You will be very glad that you did. "
