The Lodge caters to guests and the surrounding environment through efforts that have been recognized by organizations including National Geographic and Programm Bandera Azuil Ecologica.

About an hour and a half from San José and located at 2,650 meters, the Lodge makes it possible for nature lovers to experience the montane cloud forest of Talamanca, Costa Rica. The Lodge is located near the renowned mountain area Cerro de la Muerte, which is an excellent example of montane habitat.

Birders find a haven during a visit to the lodge as the 80 hectare of property provide sanctuary to over 140 bird species. A visit to Paraíso Quetzal Lodge is not complete without seeking out the namesake of the Lodge, a vibrantly colored bird called the Quetzal.

Stretch out and enjoy mountain views from the comfort of a pine wood cabin, then join one of the excursions into the natural surroundings. Guests can choose from guide led or self-guided tours. Venture on a hike along the El Caracol cascade trail to witness the largest waterfall of the Parrita River or hike through a 600-year old forest along the Danta Trail.

Guests can also join guided tours such as the Highlands Birding Tour, which was designed with birders in mind. The tour is an opportunity to explore habitats frequented by over 150 species and is a way to learn about the ecological habitat of Cloud Forests. In addition to the impressive birding opportunities are a wide range of flora and fauna for guests to visit and learn about.

After exploring the surrounding area, you can relax and savor Costa Rican cuisine cooked on a firewood stove while savoring a montane view from the restaurant Los Colibríes. During meals watch for hummingbirds darting about the open-air seating area. The area is also a place to enjoy coffee, drinks and wifi. Guests can wander the photo gallery Quetzal Gallery, and perhaps contribute a photo to the hotel visitor guest collection.
