Overview

Grano de Oro Hotel in San Jose
Grano de Oro Hotel in San José

Originally opened as a 21-room hotel in 1991, Hotel Grano de Oro now features 40 rooms and several other amenities spread across three buildings on a large property. The Canadian-owned hotel is in a turn-of-the-century mansion that gives it the unique feel of staying in someone's home while benefiting from high-quality hotel amenities.

The highly regarded hotel's restaurant, Restaurante Grano de Oro, features a range of French Mediterranean cuisine with tropical influences. Open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day, the restaurant uses only the freshest ingredients from sustainable local farms whenever possible. French chef Francis Canal turns them into the delicious meals the guests enjoy while dining in the elegant dining room or elegant courtyard. Private dining is available for up to 30 people, and an award-winning wine cellar has more than 2000 bottles that are hand chosen to pair with the menu. A bar and lounge allow you to relax as you wait for your table or if you simply want to enjoy a glass of wine.

There are plenty of places to relax at Hotel Grano de Oro as well. The rooftop garden terrace features comfortable lounge chairs and two Jacuzzis in a secluded setting. The hotel partners with local massage service Aromas Tropicales so that guests can receive rejuvenating treatments that make you feel relaxed, refreshed and beautiful. A small gift shop carries handmade crafts as well as local flavors such as artesian jams, coffee and chocolates.

Hotel Grano de Oro also assists with a variety of transportation options. Pick-up and drop-off from the Juan Santamaría International Airport or from the domestic airport of Tobías Bolaños for a small fee. Guests who prefer to travel through the country by van can book a professional bilingual driver from the hotel with no schedule restrictions. Shuttles are available with advance reservations, or the hotel can help you rent a car if you prefer to drive yourself. Childcare is available for those guests who need to take advantage of it. Cribs and rollaway beds are also available for those traveling with children.

"My husband and I travel in search of areas that have an abundance of Sailfishing. Costa Rica meets all of our expectations! Hotel Grano de Oro was recommended to us primarily for its safe lodging in a big city, as San Jose! This hotel is a highlight of our vacation, both upon arrival and especially the last night of our departure. Dining in their "secret garden" with the best gourmet cuisine and ambiance is a gastronomical experience. We were able to see the extensive renovations while passing through in Dec. 2006. It is incredibly beautiful and an architectural marvel. The sleeping acommodations are a dream haven. This is a must on your next travel itinerary! "
