A tropical vacation in Costa Rica does not have to be only for the super-wealthy. For anyone who appreciates the unspoiled nature of a rainforest or the pristine sands of an uninhabited beach, there is Poor Man’s Paradise, a hotel that lets the beauty of Costa Rica be front and center. Located on Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula, this cozy hotel allows guests to experience paradise off the grid by allowing a connection to the surroundings without distraction. Leave your computers and your cares behind and live in the moment at this lush tropical hideaway.

From your first day, you’ll understand what makes this hotel different from the others. After arriving by boat to the Amaya homestead, you are greeted by friendly staff, beautiful vistas, and gorgeous remote beaches. Your accommodations are comfortable and provide the perfect place to relax after a full day of exploring the area or experiencing an excursion to one of the local nature reserves. The décor reflects the surroundings for an informal and comfortable ambiance.

You are not going to find any chain restaurants from your home town at Poor Man’s Paradise. Instead, you can eat like the locals on the freshest of fruits, vegetables, and seafood, prepared in traditional Costa Rican cuisine. The open-seating restaurant severs hungry guests breakfast, lunch, and dinner; a bagged lunch is also available to take along on one of the tours. You can congregate with other guests at the bar for a delicious and refreshing cocktail and maybe trade a fishing tale or two.

Fishing is just one of many activities you can try during your stay at Poor Man’s Paradise. The waters of the Drake Bay are known by fishermen as a prime location for wahoo, yellowfin tuna, dorado, snapper, grouper and other species. If fishing is not your cup of tea, you may opt for a whale-watching tour, scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking through the rainforest, or other activities that let you get up close and personal with the splendor of Costa Rica. You’ll return home with many wonderful memories of your stay at Poor Man’s Paradise.
