A small, secluded hotel, The Backyard Hotel is located on the beautiful Playa Hermosa and features just eight suites. The little patch of paradise on which the hotel sits is home to one of the world's best surfing spots and sunbathing beaches. All rooms are situated on the ocean and feature spectacular views of the shimmering waters.
Playa Hermosa is just a short distance away from the busier Jacó Beach, another beach famous for its surf. If you're a novice surfer, take surf lessons over at Jacó, and then come back to the Backyard to show off your new skills.
You don't have to leave the resort's grounds, however, to experience a true Costa Rican getaway. The Backyard Hotel overlooks the stunning Playa Hermosa National Wildlife Refuge, that features lush plant life, stunning waterfalls and, of course, some of the country's most exotic wildlife.
Watch one of the many hotel-sponsored surf contests from The Backyard Bar. Because the resort sits on a beach that produces some of the best waves in the world, it regularly hosts surf competitions. During the peak of surf season, you can catch a show almost every weekend.
Relax by the oceanfront pool with drink in hand, or splash around and let loose. The pool is big enough to get your morning laps in with ease. If you just want to lounge around and get a tan, do so in one of the poolside's many lounge chairs. If you want to relax your muscles after a long day out on the water, do so in the on-site spa tub.
Enjoy fine dining right on the beach at The Backyard Bar. Despite the name, this restaurant doesn't just specialize in bar food. Rather, it serves gourmet seafood, a delectable breakfast and a light lunch fare. Guests can enjoy drinks at discounted costs during happy hour. A second bar on the property, Windows Bar, also serves drinks and light fare only. The resort offers free continental breakfast and features three other bars/lounges, a café and room service.
Deluxe room, The Backyard Hotel
The Backyard Hotel offers two types of hotel rooms: the Master Suite and the Deluxe Suite. All guests can enjoy the hotel's many amenities despite the type of room they reserve:

The Deluxe Suite – The Deluxe rooms feature either one king-size bed or two twin beds, bunk style. Each room comes complete with a private ocean view and views of the pool. All have their own bathrooms with shower only.
