"I just returned from a visit to Costa Rica. I loved our stay at Los Lagos in La Fortuna, but the first night there we had an evening package to Baldi. After dinner, my 7 and 9 year old children went on the water slides. First down the curving slide, which was scary but fun. Fortunately the man stopped my children from going down the "fast" slide saying it would bang them around. As a 42 year old mom in decent shape, my children dared me to go. The slide is designed extremely poorly and jerks you sideways before the big drop. My head slammed into the wall on the way down and knocked me unconscious. I spent the next 2 hours not remembering where i was or how i got there. When my children finally got me help, the medical assistant did not speak english. They gave me ibuprofen to take that night and again in the morning.
After arriving home i got a CT scan, and found i actually fractured my skull and have a severe concussion with some memory loss. I am very fortunate i did not suffer any hemorrhaging. This slide needs to be shut down."

"Baldi Hot Springs' water slide is a poorly designed hazard, with a well known pattern of causing broken bones, head and spinal injuries and even death. On December 9 2010 I dislocated my shoulder and shattered my right collar bone the first time I tried the slide. I was lucky. While at the clinic at La Fortuna, I learned that a woman broke her neck on the same slide a year earlier. STAY AWAY! With so many other great options available, don't patronize a place that knowingly keeps such a hazard open. I wish I could sue them just to shut that slide down.

"My wife and I visited Baldi in November 2007. We decided to use one of the many slides that they offer. My wife went down the slide first and then I followed. The slide's embankment or side wall which keeps you flying off was not properly built that is to say it was not high enough to keep me on the slide. I proceeded to fly off the slide falling almost 18 feet scraping the side of my body, lacerating my hand, dislocating my fingers, separating my shoulder, and suffering several head wounds. It was a minor miracle that as I was falling I was able to adjust my body to prevent breaking my legs. Somehow I made it into the pool below alive. I proceeded to lie at the base of the pool for 45 minutes before an ambulance arrived. When asked why the long wait, we were informed by hotel staff that some other tourist had suffered a fall earlier in the day and that the ambulance they typically keep on standby was with that patient. I wish I were making this up but almost a full year of rehab later I continue to deal with the massive scarring I sustained on my body. We have filed a lawsuit but it seems unlikely that I will receive any justice in this case. The Local DA has tried repeated to get the case dismissed. Our lawyers in Costa Rica have discovered that the owners of Baldi is an Attorney with ties to the local magistrates. Additionally we discovered that a small child had died earlier that year on the very same slide. Please do not frequent this potential death trap of attraction. It's not worth risking your life. I am more than willing to share photos if anyone does not believe this post at miltsantiago@yahoo.com."
