South Puntarenas is one of the most stunning provinces in terms of natural beauty. Pristine and untouched by tourism, much of this region is remote and secluded as it is covered in lush green tracts of rainforests. Home to the Osa Peninsula and the Corcovado National Park, this part of Costa Rica has the distinction of being known as one of the most biodiverse regions in the world. Here you can spot a wealth of wildlife from the loud scarlet macaws to the elusive jaguars. This area also offers some great diving, surfing and sportfishing as well. South Puntarenas is the ideal destination for those who enjoy the outdoors.

At the time of writing, there were no casinos present in South Puntarenas. However, many of the lodges and all inclusive resorts located out here did have game rooms for their guests to enjoy. Card games are very popular in Costa Rica, with many game rooms offering a variety of gambling options. Plans are also underway at the moment to build a casino out here as part of a hotel or resort.

Casinos are quite popular in the bigger cities of Costa Rica. Less imposing than the ones found in Vegas, the casinos found across the country are more informal relaxing places to play at. There is no real dress code as well and you are only required to look neat and casual. At most casinos in Costa Rica, the least amount of money you can bet is 500 Colones.

Rummy or 21 is the game of choice for most Ticos and is, in many ways, very similar to the card game blackjack. The game however, also has its own set of rules which you will have to learn if you wish to play rummy. For example if your first three cards are the same, as in they are three of a kind or belong to the same suit; then you have a ‘rummy.’ Electronic slot machines and roulette are also popular casino games in Costa Rica, but be aware that they are not the same as in Las Vegas, so you will need to learn to play them before you can bet big.
