Located near the village of Ojochal, Hotel Lookout at Playa Tortuga is a gem hidden among mangroves, tropical rainforests and beautiful, secluded beaches. The small hotel is known for its birding, so much in fact that it provides rooms specifically for birders and nature photographers. The hotel is on a hilltop amid 15 acres of vegetation created by a strategic planting program it used to increase bird life and wildlife in the area. The early morning hours are perfect for seeing green parrots and scarlet macaws, and toucans and aracaris are common at any time of the day. Other common species near the hotel include laughing falcons, yellow-headed cara caras and other birds of prey. Nature photographers will also enjoy glimpsing howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and a range of other wildlife.

Because it is such a secluded and gorgeous property, Hotel Lookout at Playa Tortuga is also a popular destination for honeymooners or couples who want a romantic getaway. The hotel offers a "Bring on the Romance" package that provides a four-night stay in a deluxe room. The package also includes daily hot breakfast, daily dinner with wine, a bottle of welcome wine in the room, massages and a Costa Rican adventure tour. Choose from surfing, ziplining, kayaking or horseback riding.

Lookout Bistro is the hotel's on-site restaurant and serves a complimentary breakfast each morning. Choose from huevos rancheros, banana pancakes, an American breakfast or a traditional Costa Rican breakfast. No matter which entree you sink your teeth into, it includes a fresh fruit plate with yogurt, fruit juice and Costa Rican coffee or tea. Smoothies are available for a small fee. Throughout the afternoon and evening, Lookout Bistro serves bocas such as chips and guacamole and hummus. A full bar is available as well.
