The Shore Meets the Jungle at Mikado Natural Lodge

Costa Rica is known for its incredible rainforests and national parks filled with flora and fauna you won’t see anywhere else around the world. For many travelers, it’s not enough to just visit the jungle; they want to stay a few nights in the jungle as well! If you’re a nature lover who dreams of waking up to the soothing sounds of wildlife right outside your door, you’ll want to book a few nights of your next stay in Costa Rica at the Mikado Natural Lodge.

The Mikado Natural Lodge is located in the North Pacific Coast area of the Guanacaste region. It is about 250 kilometers from the San José International Airport (SJO) and can be reached by car, bus, shuttle, or domestic flight to the nearest airport in Tamarindo, just 12 km (7.5 miles) from the lodge. Situated right in Playa Avellana, you’re never far from Costa Rica’s gorgeous coastlines, even when you’re hiking through miles of rainforest or enjoying a relaxing evening in your hotel room.

The surrounding 7.5 acres of rainforest give the Mikado Natural Lodge’s bungalows a cozy, intimate feeling perfect for couples, but the hotel is great for families too. It can even be rented out for private parties of up to 14 people!

There’s lots to explore on the property once you step outside the rooms as well. Enjoy the outdoor infinity pool, sunbeds, and cocktail bar; take an aquabiking or yoga lesson; lounge on the sun terrace; and use the convenient BBQ grills. There’s also a dining room and private chef on the premises, so you can enjoy delicious meals all without ever leaving the hotel grounds.

Of course, there’s plenty to explore not far from the lodge, so don’t let all there is to do on the property stop you from hitting the nearby beaches or shopping for souvenirs in Tamarindo, which is less than 20km (12 miles) away!

Standard amenities offered for all guests include free WiFi, pool and beach towels, daily housekeeping services with fresh blankets and pillows, and toiletries.

Activities

Best Activities Around the Mikado Natural Lodge

Using the Mikado Natural Lodge as home base, there’s lots to see and do in the North Pacific Coast region and around Guanacaste. Go surfing at one of the nearby beaches, head to Hacienda Pinilla for a round of golf, and see local wildlife on a river tour!

Go Surfing

Costa Rica offers visitors a wide variety of picturesque beaches, with some especially beautiful coastlines along the North Pacific Coast. Many of the beaches near the Mikado Natural Lodge have perfect swimming conditions year-round, with temperate waters and consistent waves that range from beginner-friendly swells to more challenging breaks.

The most popular surfing beach in the area is Tamarindo, but other standout options include Playa Negra and Playa Langosta, all of which are less than an hour’s drive away from the Mikado Natural Lodge. If you’re not too confident in your surfing abilities, you can still hit the beach to watch others surf the waves while you sunbathe, snorkel, and go horseback riding.

Golf at Hacienda Pinilla

Hacienda Pinilla has a reputation of not only being one of the best golf resorts in Costa Rica but also one of the best in all of Central America, and with just one visit, it’s not hard to see why!

While the golf course is well worth the price of admission, staying at the resort itself can be rather pricey, so many people prefer to stay at a nearby hotel, like the Mikado Natural Lodge, and drive down to play a few holes.

Once you’ve finished up the back nine, there’s still plenty more to do in Hacienda Pinilla. For example, the equestrian center has a large stable of horses that you can take out on the area’s beaches and hiking trails. Other popular activities in the area are snorkeling, surfing, sportfishing, birdwatching, and mountain biking.

Palo Verde National Park: Half-Day Jungle River Cruise

A Costa Rica vacation is the perfect opportunity to see the jungle, and there’s no better way to do it than on a guided tour!

On the Palo Verde National Park: Half-Day Jungle River Cruise, you’ll travel down the Tempisque River, which borders the Palo Verde National Park, from the comfort of a pontoon boat.

The tour is a great way to see Costa Rica’s wildlife, such as howler monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas, coyotes, coati, and more. It’s also perfect for birdwatching, as hundreds of species inhabit the Palo Verde National Park.
