In the mountainous northwestern region of Costa Rica sits Monteverde, a small town that is famous as an ecotourism hotspot. People flock to this area to experience one of the lushest natural settings left on the planet and explore without doing harm to the environment. If you want to balance adventure with your love of nature, you should plan to stay at Trapp Family Hotel Monteverde.

This unique hotel is small, but each of its 26 spacious non-smoking rooms provides a marvelous view of the surrounding nature. You can enjoy the amenities you would expect from a big resort, but at the same time, you are treated to an intimate, exclusive connection to the cloud forest. During your stay, you can dine at the on-site restaurant which offers a complimentary breakfast buffet daily and international fare for lunch and dinner. WI-FI is available in your rooms and the common areas, so you can stay connected to those at home even when you feel off the grid.

Trapp Family Hotel is indeed family-friendly, but it also appeals to adults looking for adventure and relaxation. The gorgeous bar and lounge area is the perfect spot to unwind while sipping a refreshing cocktail before an intimate candlelit dinner at the restaurant. Treat yourself to an in-room massage during your stay when you are not taking advantage of the many activities in the area, such as a coffee, chocolate, or sugar cane tour, a daring ATV ride, or strolling through the orchid gardens of Monteverde.

If you are traveling with your family, you can immerse yourself in the natural surroundings by booking an excursion. The friendly hotel staff is happy to arrange a tour of the Monteverde Butterfly Garden or Frog Pond, horseback riding, a nighttime forest hike, or an adventurous zipline canopy tour. Get ready to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Sustainability is on the minds of most visitors to Monteverde, and Trapp Family Hotel is committed to providing its guests with modern comforts while actively working to preserve the surroundings. They employ water saving measures, capture rainwater, use biodegradable cleaning supplies, compost food waste when possible, and donate cooked food waste to a local pig farm. They are good stewards of the earth and do their part to protect the environment for generations to come.

"This hotel is wonderful! It is so relaxing! The rooms are huge, the view is wonderful, and the service is great. Everything is beautiful and made out of almond wood. The view is also amazing. You are literally in the cloud forest. You can look out the huge windows in your room and see lots of different birds up close (one had a nest). The people at the hotel are also great. They are very friendly and sweet. Almost everybody could get by with English and some were fluent. The restaurant there is also great. The food is a little expensive, but it is worth it. The Aztec Soup in particular was outstanding. The hotel generally has an eco-friendly vibe. I loved this hotel!!! The only downside is that, unless you're going to the reserve, you're probably going to want to take a cab to get places. I would definitely go there again!"

"My wife and I enjoyed the Trapp Family Lodge very much. We found the staff very helpful in booking activities and calling taxis for trips around the area. We ate at the restaurant every day and enjoyed the selection of Costa Rican food and the delicious coffee. No other hotel can beat the Trapp Family Lodge for access to the Monteverde Reserve. We should have spent more days on the reserve which was a short walk up the hill. The area abounds with birds and other wildlife. Though nothing rivaled our time on the reserve with a guide, we saw a lot of wildlife unaided around the hotel. The beautiful, restful, natural environment was worth the trip and the money paid.

It was not until the day we checked out and settled the bill that we discovered would have realized a large discount by paying with cash instead of credit card. For the best views ask for a room with a balcony and not a patio."
