Set in the gorgeous Bahia Ballena, the tiny fishing village of Tambor has increasingly become a world famous tourist destination mainly due to its close proximity to Mal Pais, Santa Teresa, Montezuma, Cobano, Playa Cocalito, the Cabo Blanco National Park and Curu Reserve. Located on the southern end of the Nicoya Peninsula in Puntarenas province, Tambor has a rich surrounding habitat and is a wonderful place to enjoy the best that Costa Rica has to offer.
The airport at Tambor is the only airport in the whole of the southern region of the Nicoya Peninsula. Besides the many all inclusive hotels and resorts found in Tambor, there are also plenty of quaint inns and cabinas found dotted along the coast. SANSA offers one regular daily flight to Tambor, while Nature Air has two flights a day. With a flying time of just under half an hour, catching a plane to Tambor is a viable option for those who want to see the best that Costa Rica has to offer with limited time on their hands.
With two fantastic 4 star hotel developments in the area, Tambor is also becoming a playground for the rich and famous. Many international charter flights and small private planes can land in Tambor. However, if you prefer a more scenic route, catch a flight to San Jose, then drive down to Puntarenas and catch a ferry to Paquera. From here you can then drive out to Tambor.
