Golfing in Tambor
The capital of Costa Rica, San Jose is a modern trendy city with much to see and do. Shopping malls, colorful markets, fine restaurants, museums, theatres, night clubs and bars all dot this city’s landscape making it a cosmopolitan and vibrant place to visit. The heart and soul of Costa Rica, San Jose today has a charm that is uniquely distinct with an appeal that is all its own.

A great destination for the urban traveler, San Jose City is one of the largest cities in Central America. An ideal base point to explore the rest of the country, staying in this city is also a terrific option if you are into playing golf. Here you can find a number of excellent golf resorts to sharpen up your skills or improve your putting.

One of the best golf resorts to play at has to be the Valley del Sol with its 18-hole par 72 course that is open to the general public. Located some 15 minutes from downtown San Jose in the suburb of Santa Ana, this championship course is part of a golf course community. A challenge for any golfer, the Valley del Sol has 15 small lakes spread out all over the course amidst rolling hills and strategically placed fairways. The green fee here is US$ 7 per person and requires you to rent out a golf cart for the day as the course entails you use all the clubs in your bag. Designed by Tracy May, the sprawling 7,000 yard Valley del Sol is a great playing option especially with the fantastic weather found in San Jose throughout the year.

If you are a more serious golfer then head on over to the Cariari Country Club and its beautiful 18-hole championship course. Located just outside of San Jose near the Juan Santamaria International Airport, this golf course is considered by many to be one of the best playing spots in Central America. Designed by George Fazio, this 71 par 6590 yard golfing paradise is known for its fast playing and narrow fairways. With plenty of trees and sandpits to test your nerves, playing here is a bit pricey at US$ 40 per day with an additional US$ 20 as caddie fees.

A great place for a business meeting and a quick game of golf is the Costa Rica Country Club located in Escazu. A short 9-hole course, after your game you can enjoy a quick dip in the club’s swimming pool or play a light tennis match.
