Where to Stay in Costa Rica

Tropico Latino Hotel, Mal País
Depending on the kind of vacation you wish to enjoy, accommodations for every kind of traveler can be found throughout Costa Rica. Varying from region to region, most of the accommodations here range from Hotels & Vacation Rentals, to All Inclusive Resorts for those who wish to vacation in style. A trend of Bed and Breakfast (B&B) style hotels has shown up in the recent years.

Most of the smaller hotels in Costa Rica tend to offer a more home-like atmosphere with smaller rooms and cozy spaces. Usually run as a family business, these hotels are a great insight into the customs and culture of Costa Rica. An excellent place to brush up on your Spanish, they offer a more personal level of service.

If you wish to vacation in a lap of luxury, then plenty of hotels across Costa Rica can be found to meet you every need. From room service to private baths and personal tours and excursions, these hotels and resorts are ideal for a hassle free vacation, where you don’t have to lift a finger to do anything.

You can either live in San Jose and tour the rest of the country, or you can hotel-hop from one place to the next. Most of the hotels in rural areas are fantastic as they offer a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities. However, if you wish to enjoy a noisy and fun holiday, then staying in most of the provincial capitals will let you experience the best that each region has to offer.

Finding accommodations in Costa Rica is relatively easy. However, if you are traveling in peak tourist season that is from December to April, making a reservation is recommended. This is because during this time many of the country’s main holidays are celebrated starting with Christmas and ending the week after Semana Santa (the week before Easter). Reservations should be prepaid and don’t forget to provide your contact information, or they will sometimes be ignored.
