Islita, Guanacaste

A perfect destination for those who desire luxury and tranquility, Punta Islita is a charming retreat away from the noisy city life. Resting in a secluded corner of Guanacaste on the Nicoya Peninsula, this romantic hideaway offers spectacular scenery and remote beaches.

Islita has an incredible coast and remains a natural hot spot of Guanacaste. Hardly crowded, the little town is amazingly picturesque, boasting a small white church and a bell tower. The town is a bustling artistic community, greatly supported by foreigners and wealthy Costa Rican's.

It is basically made up of two small beaches, Punta Islita and Playa Corozalito. Both the beaches are separated by volcanic rock formations. The famous Hotel Punta Islita is located in an intimate setting, right above the ocean. The hotel offers a relaxing atmosphere, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and even has its own airstrip.

Activities in Islita

You can indulge yourself in various water activities, like swimming, diving and world-class surfing at the nearby Playa Camaronal. Go horseback riding at the coast, hiking in the nearby hills, unwind yourself at luxurious spas or simply wander around in the lush valley and enjoy the flora and fauna.

The climate here is generally warm, with January to May being the warmest of months. The area gets limited rainfall during September and October.

Getting to Islita

Flying to Punta Islita is recommended during the wet season as the roads tend to get flooded. Direct flights are available to the area from major domestic airports throughout Costa Rica, like the Tobias Bolanos Airport Pavas or the San Jose International Airport in San Jose. During the dry season you can take the wandering roads and drive either from Samara to Carrillo or take a ferry from the city of Punatrenas to Playa Naranjo and then drive through the villages of Coyote and Pueblo Nuevo to Corozalito. Driving by a car allows you to take in the beauty of the area and enjoy the enticing landscape along the way.
