Located in the lush Central Valley with many picturesque old adobe homes and buildings, the province of Cartago offers a wonderful respite for the weary traveler. Cartago City itself is a wonderful place to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle of San Jose. A quiet and picturesque town, the accommodations here are rather limited, but do not let this dissuade you from coming, as this region is the perfect place for those looking to escape the humdrum of city life. Hotels, cabins, lodges and vacation rentals can be found all over the region.

Cartago’s Orosi Valley is the ideal place for those looking for a more rural vacation. Most of the hotels here are located near and in the town of Orosi, which sits just a few miles southeast of Cartago. The accommodations here range from all inclusive lodges to a number of cabanas or cabins, perfect for both the well to do traveler as well as those traveling on a budget. The air here is fresh and clean with thriving coffee plantations found all over the place.

Turrialba sits just east of Cartago and is renowned for its incredible whitewater rafting. Nicknamed the whitewater rafting capital of Costa Rica, this tiny town has a number of hotels to stay at ranging from budget accommodations to the more upscale mountain lodges. There are several sodas in town where you can grab a quick bite to eat as well as a Chinese restaurant, a few bakeries and a number of grocery stores.

There are also a number of all inclusive resorts that can be found throughout Cartago. Currently there are no golf resorts in Cartago, but with easy access to the capital San Jose, you can take advantage of golfing in the city. There are a number of golf courses in and around San Jose and with Cartago just 30 minutes away, you can golf to your heart’s content and then come home to relax amid some of the most picturesque surroundings of Cartago. Cartago also has the advantage of being close to Heredia, where you can enjoy some of the best golf. The Herradura Hotel Golf Resort and Country Club in Heredia offers some of the finest golfing facilities in Costa Rica.
