Where to Stay in Heredia

If you have added Heredia to your itinerary for your Costa Rica trip, you’ll quickly find that there are plenty of accommodations to choose from during your stay. The hotels and lodgings in this region are meant to suit any budget, so no matter what you are looking for, you’ll be able to find it and afford it. There are places that are available as vacation rentals all around the province if you’re looking for that experience; however, your best bet for finding affordable – inexpensive but not cheap – accommodations will be in the provincial capital of Heredia City. This area has a high population of students, which is what helps drive the affordability of the accommodations.

Accommodations for Adventure-Seekers

Adventure is one of the main reasons that people choose to travel to Costa Rica, and Heredia is definitely an area that can answer that call. A great place to head to in Heredia if you are seeking adventure is up north to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui and its surrounding area. This village is close to the Caribbean, and is a former key port for the country. Today, Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui offers incredible white water rafting opportunities for those that love water activities. It is also a place known for its wilderness adventures, and for its commitment to preserving that wilderness through ecotourism (a theme for the entire country of Costa Rica!).

Close to the La Selva Protected Zone, this region offers plenty of hiking and trekking opportunities for those that just want to be outdoors, enjoying nature. There is no shortage of accommodations here, from short term commercial rentals to vacation rentals. All over, you’ll be able to find lots of options for travelers, including basic room and board or luxury resorts. The more impressive luxury lodges will be found on the outlying areas of town, especially along the road to La Virgen.

Accommodations for Peace-Seekers

Though adventure is abound in Costa Rica, not everyone is seeking it. Some people want to visit the country, and Heredia, to escape adrenaline; they just want to find peace and quiet in nature, and relax. If you prefer this quiet, relaxing pace of life for your vacation, you can choose to stay in the town of Barva. Though only roughly three miles north of Heredia, this small township does not have any of its own accommodations; however, just a few miles outside of this peaceful area you can find some truly wonderful lodges and mountain resorts that won’t spoil your inner (or outer) peace.

Accommodations for Golfers

If you’re looking for something in between adrenaline-pumping adventure and peace and quiet, you might consider staying at one of Heredia’s golf resorts, which allow you to unwind but still offer you the thrill of the game. In fact, you’ll find the province’s best golf resort, Herradura Hotel Golf Resort and Country Club, just a convenient five miles from the Juan Santamaria International Airport. Given four of the five "Hojas de Sostenibilidad" flags, this resort is a superb example of how to achieve a harmonious balance between natural and social resources.

While Herradura Hotel Golf Resort and Country Club is the top pick for the province, it isn’t the only pick for golf resorts in Heredia. Costa Rica’s beautiful natural landscape makes it a great place for golf, and the Residencias del Golf Hotel is an excellent place to take the green. Located a convenient 15 minutes from downtown San Jose, this gold resort is also close the airport and easy to get to. As a bonus, guests staying at this resort also get access to play at the magnificent Cariari Country Club Course.
