While you are visiting Costa Rica, make sure you take the time to come to the small town of Nosara on the western edge of the Nicoya Peninsula, especially if you are hoping to see a glimpse at the real side of Costa Rica. The one sight you absolutely cannot miss is the coast near Nosara. This coastline includes some of the most famously beautiful beaches in the entire world, which people travel from all over to see. Of course, the town is also very close to the wildlife refuge and is commonly called the Gateway to the Ostional Wildlife Refuge. There is plenty to see in the town itself as well, so make your plans to come to Nosara, Costa Rica.

Getting to Nosara

Even though Nosara is a small, remote town, it is still easy to reach. The simplest way to travel to Nosara, by far, is by plane. The Nosara domestic airport receives only charter flights and domestic flights through Nature Air from San Jose. While your flight from the capital of Costa Rica will only take about 35 minutes, it may be even more convenient to take a charter flight. This gives you more control over flight times, letting you plan your vacation to Costa Rica more freely, filling every minute with exciting tropical adventures. Remember that Nosara features many exquisite accommodations, including many resorts and hotels. Many of the town’s hotels offer free shutter service to and from the local air strip, although it is not difficult or expensive to hire a taxi for the short trip into Nosara. Total, the drive from the Nosara domestic airport is only about 15 minutes.

The Nearby Wildlife Refuge

One of the most popular and famous attractions in Nosara is the Ostional Wildlife Refuge. This National Park takes the form of a 200 meter beach strip. It is the second most important turtle nesting beach in Costa Rica. The refuge is best known for its sea turtles which come to nest on this beach every year. If you plan your trip at the right time, you may even be able to come and see the turtles dragging themselves up the sand to lay their eggs in person. Lesser known, the wildlife refuge also protects a wide range of fish and birds which call the area home. In fact, the refuge actually extends several miles out into the ocean.

Experience the Beaches of Nosara

Perhaps the most famous attraction in the area is the Nosara beach. The town is located right on the stretch of beach known as the Guanacaste’s Gold Coast, and Nosara features some of the prettiest and most notable beaches along this coast. If you are looking for the most beautiful and natural beaches in the world, you need to visit Playa Azul, Playa Guiones and Playa Pleda while you are in the Nosara area. Not only do these locations offer one of the most gorgeous and relaxing sights, there is also plenty to do while on the stunning sand. Of course anyone is welcome to swim in the ocean, but expert surfers come here from around the world to experience a challenge. There are also snorkeling tours to see the nature of Costa Rica underneath the surface.

Other Outdoor Adventures

There is even more to see and do around the Nosara area. Some of the most famous attractions include ATV, hiking, or horseback tours. These tours may take you past the roaring waterfall or along the waterfront. There is plenty to explore in the local culture, amazing restaurants, and romantic hot spots. No matter what you are looking for in Costa Rica, you can find it in Nosara.
