With a reputation for being one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Central America, San Jose is the bright and vibrant capital of Costa Rica. An urban metropolis filled with all the modern comforts of life, this city is a fun place to explore. Tall buildings and shopping malls can be found all over, with superb restaurants, museums, cinema, bars, and clubs to keep you busy as you traverse this exciting city. Often times chaotic and congested, San Jose still attracts millions of tourists with its own unique charm.

A plethora of restaurants can be found in San Jose, serving all kinds of gourmet food and cuisine. From the traditional fare to continental cooking, this city has it all. With a huge variety of restaurants, in San Jose you will always find something to satisfy your taste buds. Ranging from affordable food to fine dining, there are plenty of eateries throughout the city that will fall within your budget.

In San Jose, you will find everything from French gastronomy to Japanese food, and if all this is not enough you will even find plenty of American fast food chains here as well. And if you enjoy the local fare, then around nearly every corner you will find something to satiate your appetite. Seafood is expensive in San Jose, but do not worry, as it is always fresh from the coast. When you are going out to eat in San Jose on the weekends, do keep in mind that most good restaurants are always full, so do make a reservation.

Most San Jose restaurants serve everything from beef and chicken to seafood, even vegetarian dishes are available everywhere nowadays. Do try out the local Tico food when you’re in San Jose as it is extremely healthy and nutritious. Rice and beans are the staple diet in Costa Rica and is usually eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Casado, gallo pinto and tortillas are popular local foods, and can usually be found in anywhere, from a restaurant to a roadside stall or soda.
