Sometimes I come across one of Costa Rica's impressive volcanoes when I'm traveling through the rainforest. These mighty mountains attract tourists from all over the world, who come to see them spew hot ash into the sky. Many of these volcanoes are relatively young, geologically speaking, but that doesn't diminish the spectacle of watching them erupt! Costa Rica is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire. This area spans several continents and features more than 450 active volcanoes! For a relatively small country, Costa Rica has three main areas of volcanic activity - Guanacaste, the Central Volcanic Range and the Talamanca region.
