For such a diverse country, Costa Rica is relatively small. Fortunately, this means you don't have to spend days getting from one amazing place to another, and there are many ways for you to get around this beautiful country.
When it comes to exploring the rugged landscape of Costa Rica, nothing beats renting a car and hitting the open road. Vehicle rental agencies can be found in many of Costa Rica's larger cities, and there is a wide variety of cars to choose from. If you're planning to head into some of the country's more remote regions, you'll probably want to rent a four-wheel drive vehicle, as the roads can get pretty rough out there!
Alternatively, if you'd rather meet locals during your travels, buses operate between all of Costa Rica's larger cities and most of the smaller ones, offering you the chance to relax, enjoy the scenery and meet all sorts of fascinating people. Another benefit of taking tourist buses is the fact that this mode of transportation is very cheap.
If you want to cover a lot of ground quickly, domestic flights are your best bet. Costa Rica has many small municipal airports that serve as regional flight hubs. Domestic airfare is very reasonable, and you can get from one corner of the country to another in a short time - perfect if you're determined to see everything Costa Rica has to offer!
