Cristal lake at Colinas del Poas, Alajuela
Living in Costa Rica, I am lucky enough to have access to some of the world's most beautiful volcanoes, including the Poas. As such a unique geological formation that attracts a wide array of wildlife, volcanoes are vibrant and simply beautiful. That is why one of my favorite places to visit is the Colinas Del Poas, which offers travelers exciting options for adventure! This center is one of the best in the area, and is the perfect place for those who want to have a taste of everything. Here you can go zip lining, explore the lake, dine on the extraordinary cuisine at the on-site restaurant and much more. Hop along with me, and I'll tell you all about my time spent here!
Sitting on 100 acres of land in Fraijanes along the foothills of the Poas Volcano, this site is peaceful and calming despite its close proximity to San Jose at the Juan Santa Maria International Airport, making it super accessible for travelers. They have been in operation since 2001, so you know these guides and professionals are among the best in the country.
Canopy at Colinas del Poás
I must say, I am a thrill seeker, but zip lining is a completely different experience! I was able to gain a whole new perspective of the Central Valley and through the cloud forest. On our way through the intricate system of cables and platforms up in the tree tops, we saw so much wildlife that I don't even get to see in my homeland! Since you're up in the air, don't forget to look up, down and all around to catch a glimpse of monkeys, birds and sloth in the trees! If you really want to feel the adrenaline pumping through you, try out the Tarzan swing! Do you want to know the best part of the zip line here? The last cable is the absolute best! It's 0.25 miles long, and offers you a stunning view of the land!

Lake
The lake here is perfect for canoeing, bird watching and fishing. After you get your blood pumping up in the trees, the lake serves as a calming and serene place to really just enjoy the landscape and local flora and fauna. We hopped in a small canoe and just cruised along the water. The guides here are very helpful, professional and friendly, so you can always ask questions and have them point out things like animals up in the trees or birds feeding their young. If you are an avid angler, you'll love the freshwater fishing here as well.
Silvestre Restaurant
We worked up quite the appetite after zip lining, canoeing and fishing throughout the day, and luckily there is an on-site dining area that serves fantastic cuisine! After a day of adventure, we were able to sit back, relax and take in the stunning scenery while waiting for the meal. The dishes are carefully crafted by the chefs to be healthy and delicious, and I must say, they did not disappoint.
The activities don't end here either! There's canyoning, kayaking, tree climbing, suspension brides and hiking all in one convenient location. We spent the entire day traversing the adventure park, so make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to do the same.
If you have ever been to Colinas de Poas, I'd love to hear your experience! I had such a magnificent time being adventurous here, and I hope you did too. What advice can you give other travelers who plan on visiting here in the future?
