Perfect Yoga meditation on pristine beach

Here in Costa Rica, we are one with nature. You may be thinking - "You're a tree frog, of course you're one with nature!" - but even humans are well connected to the scenic beauty of the beaches and rainforests here. It's not hard. The abundant greenery and peaceful atmosphere of Costa Rica helps melt away the struggles of modern living: doesn't it seem like the perfect place to say "Ohm"? No matter where you're at in Costa Rica, there is likely a studio where you can take your downward dog to the shoreline. Whether you're a novice or a pro yogi, a Costa Rica yoga retreat or class can take your practice - and your vacation - to a whole new level.

Imagine waking up to the vibrant tropical sun and spending your early morning beach or poolside excursion practicing yoga. Many people come to Costa Rica all inclusive resorts specifically to practice yoga along the serene landscape, so there are many retreats available in the country; however, you can easily find a single class or weekly package. If you're traveling to a popular tourist destination, there is a very good chance you'll find a great class that takes place right on the beach or in a villa overlooking the beautiful nature of Costa Rica.

Anamaya Resort

At Anamaya Resort, Anamaya is Sanskrit for “good health,” and that is what you'll experience at this yoga retreat. This spot is not for someone looking to party or experience the vibrant nightlife in Costa Rica. Here, you will find your inner peace and grow as an individual and a yogi. Anamaya is considered a “body, mind and spirit resort” where you can detoxify your life and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the region.

Bamboo Yoga Play

About three hours away from the San Jose Costa Rica airport by car, Bamboo Yoga Play is an eco-friendly sanctuary that offers private lessons, workshops and classes. Located in Playa Dominical on the Pacific Coast, this studio is surrounded by the Baru River and the lush, forested mountains. Although most classes take place in the open-air studio, beachside classes are also offered, as the shoreline is only a short walk away.

Luna Lodge

Boasting more than 1,600 square feet of open-air studio space, the Luna Lodge is a true getaway along the mountains. Yogis practice alongside an edge-less platform looking onto the Pacific Ocean, rainforest and the stunning wildlife. Luna Lodge also offers Tai Chi, Nia, aromatherapy and massage therapy, and is a great region for creativity to run wild. There are various events that take place here throughout the year, so travelers may want to check schedules before booking their trip.

Montezuma Yoga

Located just outside of the village of Montezuma, the open-air studio at Montezuma Yoga looks out onto the ocean for an unmatched practice. You can catch a morning class, or an evening candlelight yoga featuring live music. No matter when you take a class at Montezuma, you'll likely hear the sounds of birds and monkeys in their natural habitat, and the calming sound of the crashing waves. This studio welcomes drop-ins and has mats and props available for use. There is also a donation-based class for travelers who are working within a budget.

Nosara Yoga Institute

Nosara welcomes a large amount of tourists to its institute, but it does not offer regular classes. Instead, the mind- and body-opening experiences offered at Nosara are for individuals who are fairly serious about their practice. Nosara hosts yoga retreats and teacher training programs for individuals who would like to take it to the next level. Classes take place beachside and in a state-of-the-art studio. Travelers can arrive in either San Jose or Libera and head to Nosara from there via car, shuttle bus or commuter flight.

Pranamar Ocean Front and Yoga Retreats

Tucked away in Santa Teresa, Pranamar blends bodywork and wellness along with yoga retreats along the peaceful shorelines. People of all ages, levels and intentions can practice at Pranamar, and throughout the year several different kinds of retreats and workshops are offered by international teachers, as well as the resident teacher: Nancy Goodfellow.

Traveling to Pranamar is easiest by plane, as there are two different companies in the country that can take travelers to and from the San Jose Airport or Pavas Airport. However, the yoga retreat can also be accessed by land.

Samasati

Samasati is the perfect vacation for the yoga lover. This studio features yoga teacher trainings, retreats and on going yoga classes by the resident teacher, Max Monti. Monti is trained to teach many different kinds of yoga including Kundalini, Hatha, Ashtanga, Yin and Iyengar. Travelers can take a daily class at the nature retreat, which although it isn't along the beach, it takes place in a sunny, wooden structure with windows overlooking the forest.
