Having fun snorkeling off of Playa Conchal
Sea shells are so tiny - well, not compared to me sometimes - but one of my favorite things about beaches! You can imagine my excitement when I hop to Playa Conchal - its name came from the millions of crushed shells that make up the shoreline. Boasting crystal clear waters where you can see your toes wiggling in the sand and the fishes swimming nearby, Playa Conchal is one of the most famous beaches in Costa Rica! This pristine waters are a highlight along the Caribbean Coast, and because weather in Costa Rica is typically sunny in this region, you can enjoy the beach on almost any day.
Beach at Playa Conchal
Located in the stunning Guanacaste region, Playa Conchal is a slightly secluded 2.5-mile stretch of white sand and sea shells. Because there isn't much development here – except for a resort set in the background and a few water sports huts to rent snorkeling equipment - it seems very serene. I sure like to relax here! If you're looking to grab a bite to eat or go shopping after your adventure, the town of Brasilito is about 10 minutes on foot.

Look down into the Ocean Waters
Although I'm usually not keen on swimming because my little frog legs don't provide a lot of stability in powerful waters, Playa Conchal's calm waves have motivated me to give it another shot – I could see straight to the bottom! I saw a lot of humans swimming along the northern end of the beach where a vibrant reef lay underneath the waters. This is the most popular spot for snorkelers, and it's fairly obvious why, even to a frog.
There are plenty of tropical fish that you can swim with here! Many of them are brightly colored like nothing you've seen before. If you're lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a sting ray swim along in this region – don't be frightened! Sting rays get a bad rap, but they are generally very gentle creatures, and they won't get too close. Seeing a school of sting rays is an unforgettable experience!
If you're in need of a place to stay, there are a few camping sites nearby where you can sleep with the animals! (Well, not literally) Just imagine laying your head down underneath a blanket of stars – it doesn't get better than this.
